I have a big problem that we are being critisised in the national media for being "cheap" and not splashing out on players. The alternative being spending beyond our means and becoming the next pompey? Not everyone can have a corrupt billionaire backer with dubious ties to criminality.

Basically, theres a difference between being cheap and simply not having as much cash as everyone else.

Yeah absolutely I agree. But the mirror accusing us of being cheap for not spending 12m on a player clearly have lost it. It would be cheap if we had a lot of money and wouldn't spend it.

Fact is, every season we push our transfer budget to the very edge s calling us cheap is harsh.

The media can give us all the cooking puns they like. At least my club isn't run by morally corrupt individuals.

One thing I will question is why are we bidding 8mil for one striker and not for our main target in hooper when its been stated that they may well consider selling at that price!

I think RWW is a better striker than Hooper, so if we can get him for slightly more than Hooper, we'll work on it. I expect if there's nothing doing though we'll go back and bid higher for Hooper.

RVW is a class above hooper. Hooper is a great player though. One of these options is going to be pursued in coming days I'm not sure which one though.

I really hope we push the boat out for RVW and I reckon if we offered 10mil they would accept, I just cant see it happening though. Maybe I'm and were just to use to seeing so many lower tranfer fees splashed we just don't expect our club to so ambitious in a transfer... Or maybe its just me!

We need to invest in this transfer window if anyone doesn't agree with that then as far as I'm concerned they want the club to fail. I don't buy this frugal mindset some of our fans have actually I find very embarrassing, either way relegation is going to cost us probably a lot more then we think, so we need to make some calculated gambles as there is £60 million or so at stake here. We're a premiership club it's time to start acting like one.

No but if we keep with the current squad keeping up is going to be a difficult task. It hardly takes a genius to work that out.

We've still got the same players and manager that beat Man Ure and Arsenal, and were only bettered by Barca in the whole of Europe!

One thing that is bugging me, this money thing isnt going to dissapear after next season! It's only going to get much bigger! Yes it is important to stay up but if we dont then we have next season to bounce back <ok>

But I agree Northampton, we must invest but at a reasonable and sustainable level!

Then explain our current form then Dave? It's near enough relegation form and it's not good enough.

Form is temporary, class is permanent! In our run of poor recent form we have not been able to field our preferred first X1 because of injuries, some of these missing players are vital to the performance of those around them! Look how much better Barney looked when we first got Bassong, look how we struggle to hold up play and bring others in to the game when Holty is injured! If we can get a full team out on Wednesday, I expect us to beat Spurtz! <ok>

I agree with what you say about the likes of Bassong who has been like a rock for us, but we can't have the strong players carry the weak all the time. The problem which I have the lack of goals, the general lack of urgency and carelessness which I've noticed in the midfield in recent games. I think these area's would vastly improve if people feel their position is under threat, Holt can play dreadfully for an example and still easily get into the team.

Another very basic thing which I've noticed recently is how sloppy our passing has become. If, for example, a central midfielder receives the ball and sprays it wide, these days it always goes straight to feet - or even worse, a few yards behind the player, so any forward momentum is lost as the player has to stop/backtrack to collect the ball, negating the chance of a run at the full back etc.

Surely if you intend to pick out a wide man in space, you pass two or three yards in front of him, so he is collecting the ball while already on the run?
It happens on the edge of the opposition penalty box, too, never a ball for Snodders/Pilks/Benno/Jacko to collect while on the move, always having to stop to collect.

This is schoolboy stuff, ffs, am I the only person to get riled every time it happens?

I notice it occasionally I think it could be easily worked on if the players calmed down a bit. There is a lack of vision in the midfield sometimes I feel we look very one dimensional for an example there will be players screaming for the ball with plenty of space, but we always keep it close and just get crowded out. It's why I think we need a central midfielder who can pass like Fox tackle like Johnson and run around like Tettey.
