Vydra has been truly sensational this year, showing the world exactly what the Pozzo project is. Although he has only scored 18 (how I can say only!) which is still 4 behind Murray's (Palace) 22, Matej Vydra has now scored an average of one goal every 87.4 minutes which is the highest in England. On top of that his form at the moment is simply unstoppable, he has scored 10 goals in his last 6 championship games, however that includes charlton where he only played 20 minutes, He has actually in the last 6 championship games scored a goal every 42.8 minutes of time on the pitch. I from memory can not think of another player at any team in this league that has ever done anything near that. He is a truly unbelievable talent. (also showed his vision with the Deeney assist today deciding not to shoot)

Wouldn't mind seeing him at Norwich, I've got to admit, and I don't mean playing for you against us. After our defence's efforts today, that thought scares me witless (not a hard thing some would say)
Would you take Jackson and Morison off us for him?
Both are very very good champiosnship players, and could well do a job in a first season in the premier.
We have, supposedly moved up a tier now, and those 2 in particular seem to find it a lot harder then they did last year.

Not how our new owners roll, I'm afraid. They bring through prospects, develop and sell for big money. They will be seeing potential for £25m in a couple of years for Vydra. I'm a little worried that someone is going to make a daft offer in the near future though! A Zaha type deal might be nice - say £20m and loan him back for the rest of the season?

He is certainly one of the best forwards to bless the championship. We have had some decent finishers in the past, Danny Graham recently, Mo Johnston, Luther Blissett, Kevin Phillips in the past, but one-on-one he is the best I have seen.

But it is nearly always the case that forwards will get the glory, deserved in this case, that others may not. For me the best player this season, and our most valuable loanee, has been Abdi. His first touch in midfield is excellent, his vision has been great, and I wonder just how many of our goals this season he has had an assist in.

Lets hope we get both on long term deals!

Spot on Goldentrue. Yes, Vydra is absolute quality and without doubt one of the best finishers I have ever seen at any club, but I would not say the best player to bless the Championship and for contribution to Watford ATM, would be difficult to argue against Abdi.

Agree with this but what I will say is Vydra has been more of a shock, when we signed Abdi I had heard of him, he had a fair number of games under his belt for udinese and I knew he would be fantastic at this level, I had never heard of Vydra but from going to palace away it was that early that I knew he was a class above other strikers we have seen. I think Chalobah and Hall also deserve mentions (although Nosworthy is playing almost as well as hall). What a squad we have!

I agree that there is quality throughout the squad--no weak links at all. That is a credit to Zola who has introduced the new boys to the Championship in a careful way, and brought the best out of the players we already had . And you can see now what Zola means when he says that we are playing "like a team" where the whole is better than the sum of the parts. Every player in the first choice squad has a special quality, which adds up to an outstanding team. I think their special qualities are:

    Almunia: experience
    Hall: commanding presence
    Doyley: dependable
    Ekstrand: elegant
    Pudil: versatile
    Cassetti: class
    Hogg: tenacious
    Chalobah: skill
    Abdi: creativity
    Deeney: power
    Vydra: pace
    Forestieri: unpredictable

Add them together and what do you get--Watford! There is probably no better team in the Championship this season-- that does not mean we are going to win every match, but it is nice to go into games in a mood of anxiety plus optimism, instead of anxiety plus fearing the worst.

Absolutely Rog - on the way up on the train, it was with a huge sense of optimism and not "hope we can carve out a draw". That is what is some exciting about going

Van Hooijdonk is the best striker to play in England's second tier IMO.

Abdi is sublime most of the time, but has had two or three anonymous games though.

Van Hooijdonk was a better striker than Tevez. Swanning off to Argentina for six months to play golf and cry about the rain on full pay isn't my idea of a strike.

Agree about the strength of the squad - and particularly the way players come in to the team, or move around it with no discernible change of quality. The biggest problem(s) I have seen so far is 1) almunia's ability(?) to put his defence under pressure with poor throws or poor kicks.
    2) chalobah's judgment - he can lose the ball in silly places, then compund his error with a foul. But at 18 - hey - it's a small gripe. (Yesterday at forest, it looked like they would only score with a great dollop of help from us - even then they failed).
Vydra and deeney really frighten other defnces - and our shot conversion rate is highest in Championship.
Whether Vydra is better than mo johnston - he probably will be, but not quite yet. He rarely heads the ball. All in all though we have the depth for automatic promotion - and improving pitches will improve our chances.

    agreed...with all of this!

Vydra is amazing, and definitely there's no Championship striker this season that comes close. Abdi is fabulous too and yes, good as Chalobah is, he is a little sloppy at times, but he's young and it is just a small gripe.

    Just loving it! :)

5 braces in his last 5 starts...he's hot on his tail, and he's a far better player so it won't take long ;)

<laugh> let's hope he doesn't slow down til the end of the season ;)

Meanwhile..goals to games ratio is the only stat that doesn't work in his favour ;)
