Its being reported that Brendan wants to sell him for 7 Mill to free up funds.

    Apparently Gremio are interested.

What does everyone think? The fact that Carra running at 65% gets ahead of him says everything.

Personally i'b happy to sell him with Kelly coming back. We may need another CB soon though.

Apart from that QPR goal he really hasn't shown much.

Also - i'm fully aware this could go in another thread <laugh>

Only the Mirror I know, but they're not the only one <ok>

For the right price, yes. Part of me thinks we should keep him purely to keep Suarez happy, but then that's kinda stupid because if BR feels a play isn't good enough he should be moved on. Personally I'd like to see him loaned to a EPL club to see how he gets on then go from there, I think he definitely has the potential and the few times he has played he hasn't done much wrong.

Why would we want to sell Coates? Carra has only months left and Kelly has yet to get back into training and is unlikely to be available for the rest of this season. Even if, and it is an if, Kelly can regain form we would still need both him and Coates. His lack of opportunity is probably the one thing that is holding back his development.

Lack of opportunities is a problem - but you have to ask why he isn't getting them above of Carragher?

Apparetly Rodgers wants to replace him with another centre back (Ashley Williams).

From what I've seen of him he's done well in the appearances he's taken, of course I don't know what he's like in training or the competition he's got with the other aspiring young CBs we've got.

However, we bought him because he was voted best young player in the Copa America. That's a prestigious title in a competition that had so many talented youngsters playing in it. He's on the verge of being a regular starter for Uruguay despite barely getting a game for us, surely that shows how highly rated he is in South America?

The fact that Carra is getting played over him is BR with the blinkers. He's admitted that he admires Carra and he tries to show it by playing him out of loyalty to the old defender. It would be a mistake to sell Coates at this point.

I think, as others have said, we need to send him on loan to get games and then make a call.

I don't trust him at this point in the season to just play him for 5 or so games. He looks shakey - probably because of a lack of confidence due to not playing enough.

I think Carra is starting because of experience, organisation and the luxury of being sentimental against recent weaker opponents. It shouldn't affect Coates beyong this season. I hope he stays.

I think it would be a mistake but with Kelly and Wisdom capable of playing in his position then it wouldn't prove too costly.

I suppose that depends on Rodgers planning to use either Kelly or Wisdom as CB cover. He may, in the short term, consider that they along with Robinson as direct replacements for Johnson and Enrique.

Would be a poor decision for me! Nothing has changed the potential that most on here have seen in him periodically whenever he is mentioned. How does a player go from being classed as a good buy and having great to potential to now being questioned? The only thing he needs is regular games, CB is probably the most difficult position to come in from the cold and play. Send him to Wigan, Villa or qpr or somewhere, if he fails after a decent run fair enough. Seems a bit like Hendo to me; we appear to need to raise funds of any sort to bring players in, it's all a bit fantasypremierleague to me!!!!!!

  12. Both the player and this conversation reminds me of Gabriel Paletta <ok>

This unfortunately. Can he adapt and cope with the pace, high lines, physicality etc. I wouldn't want to replace him with Williams though if we could go better. I think Williams is good ( cracking last name) but not sure how that would fly with recent comments about Suarez.

He's barely played for us this season, best thing would be to send him on loan. I'm surprised to see of how little he's been used so far this season, He hasn't performed all that bad when given the opportunity.

Even Kelly made a blunder against City, which cost us 3points, but everyone seems to back him and accept it's all a part of learning process, it's got to be same for Coates, who's as talented as him, he just needs to play.

He definitely has the potential, he wouldn't be on the starting lineup of his NT if he was rubbish.

be a bit sad if Coates goes as looks ok from what i have seen,

trouble is we have Kelly and Wisdom that can play CB even though have been playing RB, if we are to move them to CB position, who would people rather lose then?

i have more confidence in Kelly and Wisdom being a success here than Coates, so unless those 2 stay as RB, we need to move players on who wont be really given the chance so other players can come through like Mclaughlin,Flanagan,Robinson etc if Coates stays he will probably stop their growth as Wisdom and Kelly will most likely stay at RB for now.

it's a jugling act, but we need to move players on who wont be really given a chance for our youth to come through and hopefully shine.

Like most i don't see the point in selling him.He needs game time and ATM he ain't getting that.So like mentioned send him out on loan say to Blackpool as they have had 2 players from us and they have both done well there. It would be foolish to sell him at this point, keep him on the books and see how he develops out on loan. And if he turns out not being enough then sell him

Like Micah said he would not be in the starting lineup for his NT if he was rubbish

He needs games so he'd probably be best off being sent out on loan.

To be honest I'd be happy for us to sell him if Martin Kelly and Jose enrique weren't injured, as Kelly and Wisdom can both play at CB

Suarez dumped Coates for Lucas anyway - Love triangle perhaps?

Send him on loan and see what the lanky south yanky can do. Whack him in a **** team like QPR or Villa who are constantly defending, see how he copes. Maybe he's just not suited to this league - we'll never know until he's given a good consistent run out.

We don't want to rattle the South American camp we now have. Seems like South American or British or **** off.

Big mistake if we let him go. But it won't be the first time we've made mistakes.
