well they supposedly said we only had to pay 1.6m (again not sure if that's mill or euro's). Levy's deadline day antics as usual. We're not gonna get a striker that us fans are really happy with anyway, if we're honest. - we're having to "settle" for someone, which is the usual story as we're always going to be out priced of the type of strikers we need. so I couldn't care less who they go to anymore.
£1.6m for a striker is the going rate for someone in League 2 nowadays. We should be biting their hand off even if he's not "perfect"
spurm, that figure was about holtby mate. but still... it's **** all for an attacking midfielder who'll strengthen us. (if he's all he's cracked up to be).
It's probably more than £1.6m though, Spurm. That's a figure that was created when this started, just after Holtby signed the pre-contract and it's stuck. It's not in Schalke's interests to sell him now, as it could impact upon their Champions League campaign. Progressing past Galatasaray, which they're pretty strong favourites to do, is worth about €4m in prize money alone.
3rd bid in for holtby and talks continue. apparently shalke want the money now. apparently more than £1.3 mill.
To be fair Negredo's more than a "settle for" striker. He's part of the most talented Spain squad around, has had a great goal scoring record at both a poor and top Spanish side (Almeria and Sevilla) and in my opinion, is probably entering the peak of his career now, the fact Sevilla have (supposed) financial problems could be a blessing for us. Negredo would be an awesome buy in my opinion, a step up on what we have. Just gutted about Llorente though, for years I've wanted him at Spurs ****ing Juve ****ers!!!
I hope you're right SOS, I'll trust your judgement on him, as u seem pretty adamant. I just can't deal with another Darren bent. Or perhaps a Pav, which splits opinion. We need someone prolific!!
Prolific will cost a bit of dosh. We want the Holy Grail but not pay for the right to attend it. If we get there, will Levy act as ***in and spend little or nothing to sustain our position, as history shows he has already failed once. Negredo would be my choice , as he is mid price but what scares me Levy is looking at players in the price range of Norwich, Wigan but wants us to compete with Arse, Chavs etc. No logic.
I'd be happy to see us bring in someone with potential. Defoe and Adebayor should be fine until the end of the season, but we need someone else in case of emergency.
Can we sign this bloke up, please? No idea if he's any good, but we could just use him as a penalty coach. Fantastic placement.
Potential yes, but that can be a smoke screen for cheap , run of the mill and eventual dead wood. You reap what you sow. Quality potential targets still tend to cost and Levy,s doesn't go to Asda any more but likes the pound shop.
This is what I've been trying to say. well put sidney! PNP, I too, wish we'd bring in a striker with potential who's about 21. Negredo is the same age (or there abouts) as Pav was when we brought him in. He's likely to fall into that "little bit more than most, but not too expensive" price category. It frightens me that we'll end up with someone who's distinctly average again. we're done it so many times before in various positions across the pitch.
Some interesting statistics here.. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892...l-striker-not-holtby-is-what-tottenham-really
Levy has to bite the bullet and spend serious money on a striker of top quality. To do anything else is to waste the money he has already spent on the rest of the team. It's no good having a Rolls Royce and putting a Ford engine under the bonnet.
Who though? The trouble is we're on target this season, whether you think we need a striker or not, and right now is not the right conditions for chucking money about even if we did have the money. Like it or lump it, Adebayor was always going to be our big striker signing and he did cost us a lot. We're supposedly paying him around £80k a week and if you think we can afford to have an £80k a week striker sitting on the bench as well as buying a replacement before he's even gone then I don't know what to say. We're spending over £20mill more than we used to without CL football so we simply have to be getting some kind of value for money with our signings and can't really afford to pay top whack for the obvious top players, especially when we've already got players in their position and earning big money. If we start playing either Ade or Defoe rather than trying to shoe horn both into the team I think they will fair better even if it means less playing time for both of them.
Presumably we can ship out one of the existing strikers if financially necessary. The argument is that having already spent a fortune assembling a great team it is short sighted not to go the extra mile to complete the job. If Ade returns finds some good form then all will be right with the world, IF! I think it's a bigger gamble to hope for fourth to solve the problem it would be foolish to write off Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton that's four teams with a very realistic chance looking at two places. Getting rid of Harry and signing AVB does not come cheap and that investment has been made. Bearing in mind that Spurs earned some 27 million from the last CL appearance without the knock on effects of appealing to the top players and so on, cementing 4th or better becomes very important when you are so close.
I have to agree with Spurf on this one. We most definitely need a more reliable and accurate striker than the two we have are proving to be, currently. Yes, it's Catch 22 for Levy. Does he risk getting a CL spot without investing. Or does he invest the money now and hopefully, if we buy wisely, strengthen our chances of getting that CL place and thereby probably recouping the investment in the striker.
