vs Wednesday January 30th Old Trafford 8:00pm. This will be the visitor's first away game since they sacked Nigel Adkins 2 weeks ago, it'll be interesting to see how they do away with their new manager in charge. Former players that have played for both clubs - Danny Wallace joined us from Southampton in 1989, he was a good player for us and should've played more times for England in my opinion also he should've got a league medal with us with the team we had at the time but it wasn't to be, Mark Hughes played for the saints for 2 years between 1998-2000, but his first club was United and he will always be considered a legend by the fans, scoring increle goals like the one he did against Oldham, he was one of Fergie's greatest signings in my opinion. The last time we played the away team at home was in the 04/05 season when we won 3-0 with goals from Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo wrapped upped the win, at that time, we were a team in transition having sold David Beckham to Real Madrid 2 seasons before, we got Ronaldo for £12.24 million having impressed against us and Rooney in the summer of 2004 for £30 million, since then the latter has become an important player for us and the former went to join Real Madrid and has got a good goalscoring record there. Key men - For us its Robin Van Persie, he's got to be player of the year before the end of the season, he's been top quality for us this season, scoring important goals away at Chelsea, Liverpool and City, he's got us 22 goals for us so far this season, i believe he can get us at least 35 if he can keep up this run of form. For the away team its Ricky Lambert, i remember when we played them at the start of the season, he bullied our defence and he scored against us as well, we'll have to keep an eye out for him if we're to win on wednesday night.
We will be like kids in a sweet shop come Wednesday. We have all enjoyed the journeys to the likes of Hartlepool etc, but to be going to Old Trafford again is great. United should win, of course. But it is Mauricio's first game, and we are playing well. I just hope the game and the atmosphere are better than when we visited Anfield - what a dire experience that was. Our midfield is playing much better now than when we met at SMS. I just hope they all remember to turn up and not be overawed. Maybe the plan behing taking them to Nou Camp was to get them ready for Old Trafford. This'll be my first visit since it was extended. Could we have another 3-3 draw like we got a few years back when you had that Italian keeper playing? Maybe you could get him back for old times sake.
We don't know what we're going to do under the new manager, so could be interesting. Good to see both sides have acclimatised themselves to the snowy conditions with training camps in Qatar & Barcelona respectively.
Taibi, funnily enough, i saw Le Tisser's goal a couple of weeks ago, how on earth did our keeper not save that.
I was watching after the floodlights fade on MUTV last year and he said he left us because of personal reasons.
Last time i went to Old Trafford, Diego Forlan scored about 5 mintues from time to rescue a draw for you. Shows how long its been, good to be back.
We played well in Poch's first game and pressed high up the pitch. Whilst not expecting a victory, I shall be very interested to see how we do. It's how we do against Wigan and Newcastle that will affect our end of season position...this will be an interesting game to see how far we have come.
Sorry, but I had to drag that up - I have to every time we play you. That, and the time we put 6 past Schmeichel:
Yeah, you did - Newcastle came second; we're currently above them in the league. However much changes in a decade & half for most clubs, it seems that Man U have remained a consistant. I'm torn, he's captaining my Fantasy team but I'd still much rather a Lambert hattrick than an RVP one...
