HARRY Redknapp admits he is tempting fate by making the same bold prediction that got his QPR predecessor the sack. When Rs escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth on the very last day of 2011-12, Mark Hughes vowed the club would never be in the same position this campaign. In one respect Sparkyâs prediction came true. The only snag was they were worse than before, and the Welshman paid for it with his job in November. But now Redknapp reckons heâs been chanting much the same mantra to prospective new faces in a bid to get them to QPR before the transfer window closes. Rangers take a day off from Premier League duty to face MK Dons in the FA Cup. But the Rs manager revealed he has not seen a minuteâs preparation this week as he totted up air miles with chat-up lines at the end of it to encourage Europe's best, including Rolando in Portugal and Etienne Capoue at Toulouse, to join the club. He said: âIâve been saying to players, come here and help us stay up, and weâll build a side that wonât be in this position again. âI think someone else said that before, but itâs the first time I said it.â Redknapp insists time has run out to make fresh approaches, and itâs do or die for players on his list before the window closes Thursday at 11pm. He added: âWeâve got the targets. If I canât get them I donât where we can go. I think if we try hard enough and want to do it â we can pull it off.â http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/london-qpr/2013/01/25/82029-32681117/
In all honesty, if you were a player would you come to us? Harry is trying to sell sand in the desert to get anyone to sign...
I agree with you mate. Was being tongue in cheek. It's a bit too difficult to make those claims at the moment but it's all part of the sales pitch and if it lures a few more faces here then you won't hear a word from me... (promise)...
If i was a player i think I probably would. You could come to Rangers with absolutely nothing to lose. A vastly inflated pay cheque every month for your services, being 'put in the shop window' for other PL clubs if we did go down (of course it wouldn't be the players fault 'cos QPR were doomed anyway), a chance to go for next to nothing with a well written get out clause and if the player had a part in us staying up the kudos would be amazing. All in all, not bad for a few months work
But shi.tty world, Casillas got injured on Tuesday and it took them just 2 days to buy new goalkeeper
Exactly the position that Harold himself is in. Of course he is doing his level best to keep us up, but the **** won't stick to him if he fails valiantly.
Tbh it was a foregone conclusion trying to get quality in in this window in our condition - even with our willingness to spend money. Think that was why some of us started panicking in mid October when the storm clouds began forming in earnest. 'Arry's done wonders to get this lot scoring points after such an appalling start. Maintaining his rate of 11 points in 9 games would've produced a tidy 44 over a season which suggests with effective management, the imbalanced squad had just about enough quality about it to survive, all things being equal. But with just 4 points from 12 games (13 if you include the manager-less game at OT) all things were never going to be equal going into the second half of the season, were they? So 'Arry's rate of 1.2 points a game will only give us 33 points at the end of the day. Clearly not enough - especially with those above clocking up decent results as often as they do. If we can calculate the pulse rate, so can the agents and players 'Arry'd like to bring in to try and up the points rate. Even with all the sweeteners we're offering, we're in no state to attract even half decent prospects. Such a shame. Makes the Remi signing all the more surprising.
