    Apparently we have made an offer for this young French player. It was mentioned in this mornings Journal that we were looking at him to be backup for Cisse.

    He's only 19 so probably more one for the future rather than immediate striker backup.

    Newcastle's current offer for #Thauvin means that, if accepted, the player would be loaned back to Bastia until the end of the season. #NUFC

    Interesting... We really should all start watching ligue 1!!!

    If it were the other way round, with English players cheap and French terribly expensive... Who would a French team buy from the premier league?

    It worries me that we can't be buying all their good players...

    Ah what the hell, bring him in. Gotta be a better prospect than Gosling right now. Also surely the only requirement to beat Shola to the squad is the ability to run so he's pretty much a shoe in on the bench at least!

    Transfer news: Bastia chairman Pierre-Marie Geronimi has revealed that Arsene Wenger has twice called him about Florian Thauvin but has not tabled a bid for the French Under-21 international midfielder who is also a target for Newcastle United.

    The Magpies have however lodged a €3 million bid and as part of the potential deal Bastia will also receive 15 per cent of any future sale with the playerreturning to the club on loan for the rest of the season.

    Speaking on the Ligue 1 club’s website Geronimi said: “We have not received any firm offer from Arsenal and, thus, there is no question of the €5 million reported.

    “This week I have had Arsene Wenger on the phone twice. He expressed his interest in the player to us, but it has not gone beyond that.”

    On Newcastle’s interest the Bastia chief said: “I should be extremely clear on this subject once more to give our supporters the whole truth. The club has only today received a firm offer for Florian and it comes from Newcastle.

    “They propose a €3 million fee, with the player staying at Bastia until June and 15 per cent of the value of a future sale. We are considering the proposal and will decide quickly.”

    what are you saying? all I'm saying is for us to spend this kind of money suggests a player will be sold for a similar or greater value! I could be wrong but anyone can I'm sure see why I've thought it's very possible.
