Yeah, I know, £10m is just about within our grasp, £20m is definitely pushing it. I'd very much like Biglia though.
Mbokani, Wolfswinkel and Biglia? if only. not a cats chance in hell i would imagine. but if this were to happen...........
We can't afford any of them, without jeopardising all the work that has been done over the last few years. They all want to play european football, none are coming. The only reason that players went to QPR and Man city a few years ago was because of massively inflated wages, we can't and shouldn't offer that. i'm not saying shouldn't try to get those players here, but does seem a waste of time and effort and that the effort should be directed towards bringing players in that will come and make a difference. sorry for the pessimism
I disagree, Longsight. With the incresed money up for grabs from next season in the top flight, it's imperative that we do all we can to survive in the Prem - any outlay now will be repaid in a year's time with a minimum of £60m per team available. Speculate to accumulate, I see it as. No one is advocating taking the QPRcelona route for one minute, but acquiring valuable assets that we can (just about) afford is critical if we are to flourish as a top flight club and expand the ground capacity
I'm not saying that we shouldn't spend, but the level of wages and transfer fees will be way in excess of the touted figures, just as an example, Zaha to utd for £15m and we expect to pick wolf penis up for 8m and 30k a week. It's fantasy land. and if I was a player, the only reason i'd come to Norwich is for cash (so not going to happen) and b) to put myself in the shop window (and these players are already surrounded by lights).
the next season, even without additional players on higher salaries is likley to see an estimated increase in wages of approximatley 20% or £6million, add in two players on £40k a week is another £4m without taking into account win bonus etc. We are unlikley to recoup much money from letting players go in terms of transfers couple of injuries to key players and all the extra sky money has gone. £20million to increase the capacity, which in reality will not result in huge extra income Speculate to accumulate but cautiously.
don't forget longsight next season we'll have no debt repayments to make so extra budget. i've no issue with a young player like wolfy coming here for 18 -24 months, playing in the premier league, and then he gets snapped up by a bigger club. we make a tidy profit. we are a small club in a top league it's good hughton has got some ambition, if he had none we'd be fooked.
Has anyone bothered with the African Cup of Nations? Any decent talent not already in this country on view? Goalscorers seem at a premium seeing the low scores.
Cromer, you forgot to mention the hidden proviso there: "so long as we do in fact stay up (after having "speculated")". The siren song "60M TV money" wafts over from the rocks on which Pompey, Leeds and others lie wrecked. Fortunately, our club is not run by a gambling syndicate; we will spend only what we can afford without having to bank on staying up, and if that turns out to mean it will take us a little longer to "flourish as a top flight club and expand the ground capacity", so be it. We are on the up, even if we go down.
Double post, apologies. Like a man who buys another copy of the very same newspaper just to check ..........
Anyone remember the 7 year plan unveiled when McNally arrived at the club? By my reckoning we're only just over half way through that, but it did legislate for getting relegated and bouncing straight back at some stage. I wonder if the club's stance has changed as a result of the last 3.5 seasons?
Just being linked with players of this quality is nice, signing them would be amazing. I think we'll do well to get Van Wolfswinkel, very well, but I don't think it's impossible. The comparisons with Zaha are unfair, because everyone knows Man U paid over the odds for him because of his potential, and he's English which almost seems to add a zero sometimes. By the sounds of it though, Lisbon are prepared to sell him for around €10m, which whilst pricey for us, is a figure we could afford, if his wages are reasonable. We're a sensible club, and I'd like to think we'd be planning for the worst if we were to sign anyone expensive. I'd guess we'd include a relegation wage reduction clause, and/or a release fee if we were to go down.
Just a quick question. How long had Stoke been back in the premiership before they splashed out 'big' money on Crouch?
