IF OBL had died 10 years ago, and the Yanks knew it, why go to the trouble of crashing a multi million dollar helicopter in a compund in the arse end of the world, causing a diplomatic storm with the US's best (Only) allies in the region, when you could simply announce that he died in raid in the Tora Bora mountains?

US defence industry needs perpetual war, Afghanistan etc was beginning to wear thin so no better way to finish it up and begin scaling down of operations than finally neutralizing the boogeyman it was all built on. But as I said they require perpetual war so unprepared to go into an actual war with say Iran where they could easily get their hands severely burnt, they destabilise N Africa through instigating the "Arab Spring" to create the new boogeyman they will spend the next 10 year's blowing up from the sky and convincing their citizens is the real threat and not the loon next door building an arsenal.
