I think he could prove to be a versatile player who could bring more movement and variation up front as wide player or striker. CH's signings have been spot on so far so I am willing to go with him on this one. Who had ever heard of Tettey before he arrived?
This might upset a few of you but, apart from a couple of really good performances early on, what has Tettey really done to deserve this adulation. TBH he has been pretty shocking recently and I don't really think that is up for debate. The most creative player and passer of the ball we have (Fox), seems to have been frozen out too. We are going to lose him if we're not careful and that would be a big mistake IMO. Tell you what, it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't end up at the Villa !
Tettey was brilliant during our unbeaten run, and generally in the first half of the season. Over the last 6(?) his performances have slipped, but so have those of a lot of players. None of them have become bad players overnight, we just had a difficult run of fixtures combined with injuries, tiredness and a loss of form. Tettey was as poor as anyone against Liverpool, and Fox has a very strong case for inclusion, nobody should be undroppable.
Now THAT is bang on! I'm amazed Chris hasn't given him a breather recently, he's been very ordinary for a while now, and his loss of form has been almost as big a part of our poor run as much as the loss of Holty has been. I see Howson getting a fair bit of stick on the back of his one bad game last week - which was one of very few starts he's had this season - but Tettey seems to be fireproof and I don't see anyone dare criticise him even though it's been roaringly obvious to me for a while that he's not this amazing player I keep reading about. His passing is pretty piss poor, it's worse than Johnson's who has been far better this season in all aspects of his game in my opinion. He definitely has ability and a bit of quality so I'm not saying he's a bad player or a bad signing, and I'm not saying he won't get better with a bit more time on the training ground just that he's nothing special for me at the moment, he gives the ball away far too easily and Foxy simply has to play in the next game against Spuds. Maybe it's the fact he's from overseas and deep down you all want the same thing as Carrabuh and just want him to be brilliant, but sorry I think you might be kidding yourselves.
Tettey has had some awesome days where he's bossed the middle of the park but the passing has got bad recently. Him and bradderz make a good combo but only when both firing.
I think it's more loss of form myself, I agree he should be dropped, but when he first came on the scene his overall play was superb, and I believe he can recapture that. I called for rotation before Christmas and stand by it, we have a very strong squad and I don't think Hughton takes full advantage of that sometimes. I agree on the Howson thing, I would like to see him play in the Wes role, again keeping legs fresh and making sure fatigue doesn't creep in to our team.
The thing with Tettey is because he can cover ground much much better than Johnson, I think he can cover the better passer, but less mobile Fox. Johnson's mobility is terrible AND his passing is terrible. Tettey gives more options, he does burst forward with the ball much better than Johnson. I know I bleat about physicality being a secondary trait but Tettey can do all the things Johnson can but with speed and acceleration. Thats why I think he's a better player. I think ony one should be playing.
Disagree about Johnson's passing, he's no Ian Crook but he's nowhere near as bad as he's made out. He made a couple of superb passes early in the game last saturday and I thought he was set for a good one, alas it turned to **** after that, though Tettey was far worse, as he has been since before Christmas. He just looks uncomfortable on the ball all of a sudden, sometimes I have to double take to make sure it's not Leon Barnett in there. Yes he bursts forward and has more speed than Johnson, but when was the last time he did anything meaningful with the ball? Johnson gets in a lot more goalscoring opportunities, and has far better technique and uses the ball better. I've started agreeing with more of your stuff lately chap - and have even been saying nice things about you - but have to disagree with you on this one.
Wish he could hit a decent shot too!! I always shout 'shoot' when Tettey gets the ball on the edge of the box. And yet to see one that doesnt fly towards the corner flag. Johnson is the most likely of the two, to see a 30 yard screamer go in this season.
On another side note....why does Snodgrass put the ball 1 inch outside the line when he takes a corner? You would think that one inch might five him the ability to get it over the first man. So annoying!!
OK going to give this a third try. Here is the deal with this guy. He is not a #9 / Grant Holt type. San Jose and Houston tried him as a #9 in a 4-4-2 and he failed miserably. At SKC he plays as a left or right winger in a 4-3-3. He is much more useful in this position and has a decent amount of assists the last few season. His problem is he is a very wasteful shooter, perhaps the most wasteful in MLS: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...-winger-luck-vs-skill-it-pertains-goalscorers He is also infamous for the worst miss in MLS history: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_7atDXZexc PS: Loved Huckerby when he was here, great player!
Are you trying to post a link by any chance? As a newbie links are frowned upon to an extent until about the 10th post
ahhh that must be it. that's a shame b/c i was linking to some stuff you would want to read on him Here is the deal with this guy, he is not a #9 / Grant Holt player. SJ and Houston tried him as a #9 and he failed miserably. At SKC he has done pretty good but he plays as a left or right winger in a 4-3-3, not a CF. He is pretty useless in a 4-4-2. In a 4-3-3 he is useful, provided a good amount of assists the last few seasons. His goals tally is a bit shameful really when you look at how many shots he takes. He is the most wasteful striker in MLS statistically. This is one of the things I was trying to link for you. Google "mlssoccer central winger luck" and you will find an article on expected goal tallies... his expected total was 24 given his shots and he only scored 12. He is also infamous for the worst miss in MLS history. Search "kamara miss" on youtube and you will find it in the first vid on the list. Laughable stuff. He is a very mediocre shooter and very wasteful, you will need to get him to be less wasteful. PS: Loved Huckerby when he played for us, scored a legendary goal in a great win against the beckham-led scum from LA in 2008.

Dead right. I'm a Bradders fan and would pick him before Tettey. Tettey was a breath of fresh air when he arrived and I don't necessarily think it is all his fault for his recent poor displays. We are reliant on our full backs to a certain extent. I like Russ Martin as a defender and at set pieces but he isn't tremendous going forward against Prem defences. Whittaker was an out ball every time and Tettey/Johnson could find him when attacking or under pressure. Garrido has gone off the boil. Anyone beaten at the far post by Downing isn't on his top game. And he hasn't looked the same guy who tormented Manure. I know Tierney is supposed to less than he was last season but I think there might be a chance of a recall. That is what reserves are for. To replace injured or out of form players.
