Ah, but can you be sure where I am right now?

Having observed the mess NUFC was in, I recently slipped unnoticed into Le Toon to use my powers against all manner of evil.

I work by night, stalking Colo and his many relatives, organising Ranger's disappearance (TBA imminently).. and who do you think is responsible for Monsieur Ashley's unprecedented spending spree?

You'll never know for certain exactly where I am. Legend has it that I have been seen lurking in the shadows on the darkest of nights, trenchcoat and Akubra, braving the dark at St. James' park at the Gallowgate end in the rain.

But tomorrow night I have an appointment with Colo's garbage......

The Colo situation seems to have light at the end of the tunnel...

    http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...ccini-transfer-contract-gouffran-sissoko.htm?

Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini is ready to retract his transfer request and commit his future to the Magpies, according to the Mirror. The 31-year-old Argentine centre-back has been the centre of attention at St James' Park in recent days, following an unexpected demand to be released from his contract and allowed to return home, to deal with personal problems.

The South American, regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, was strongly courted by Argentine Primera Division San Lorenzo. However, any transfer to the club he spent the 2000/01 season on loan with was reported dependent on an agreement between the Premier League club and the player.

Sky Sports reports San Lorenzo have confirmed they will not be able to afford a transfer fee and negotiations between Coloccini and Newcastle broke down recently, meaning there was little possibility of a transfer this month. Coloccini signed a new contract with the club in March last year and is tied to St James' Park till 2016 and the Tyneside club are understandably reluctant to lose their captain.

    Follow us

As a result of the stand-off, Coloccini was believed to have told Newcastle he would walk-out on the club, giving to understand he would buy out the remaining period on his contract. However, the Mirror now reports the defender has changed his views after being told the remainder of his contract is valued at £7m. The report adds that unless Coloccini returns to the club and is available for their first team, Newcastle could consider legal options.

The good news for Newcastle fans though, is that Alan Pardew has had extensive talks with the defender and it appears a compromise may be reached soon. Fans will be hoping the issue is resolved before the Premier League clash at Aston Villa on 29 January.

    Colo: bluff called?

A bit more Colo news from NUFC.com

24 hours after having seemingly painted himself into a corner and left us with a defensive headache, Thursday brought renewed optimism that Fabricio Coloccini may not after all have played his last game for the club.

After two days of negotiations between United and the player's representatives had failed to alter his desire for an immediate departure from Tyneside, the reality of the situation now belatedly seems to have hit home to him.

With the tale of a cash-strapped Argentinean club offering a supposed "lifeline" for him to return home now binned, the fiscal reality of defaulting on the deal he extended in 2012 looks to have been made abundantly clear; not just in risking loss of earnings and fines, but also becoming embroiled in costly legal proceedings that would halt this playing career - and that he'd most probably lose.

The first hurdle was cleared when the player turned up at Darsley Park on Thursday morning and photos were then released showing him training with the rest of the squad under the supervision of manager Alan Pardew.

And although there was no public comment by player or club, with Thursday's press call only to introduce new signing Yoann Gouffran and not featuring Pardew, intimations of a possible compromise deal featured in various online newspaper columns later on Thursday. A buyout figure of £7m also cropped up more than once.

The suggestion looks to be that some form of concession has been offered and is under consideration by the player that sees him remain on Tyneside for the remainder of this season before settling his future in the summer.

While still a less than perfect scenario, it would allow some breathing space for the club in terms of not needing to recruit in that position before the end of the month, not to mention taking a little bit of pressure off the new arrivals, in particular Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

What does remain to be seen though is whether Colo would retain the captain's armband if he remained in situ, with the power balance in the dressing room looking to have shifted significantly towards Yohan Cabaye.

I think he should have been stripped of the armband as soon as this whole situation arose. If his heart's not in the club, and that might be fair enough if the rumours are correct, then he cannot be captain.

That's not said with malice, I hope his personal problems resolve themselves, but with respect to the other players who do want to be here and improve our position, someone else should be the leader.

I think stripping him of his armband immediately might have just added another complication ot a complex scenario.

If a resolution has been reached which involves a planned exit, then a change of captain is appropriate.

A few renditions of the Colocinnin song (provided there is no taking up of the offer contained therein) at the Villa match would do no harm

To be honest I doubt, if he wants to leave so badly, he really cares whether he's captain or not. Not really a good frame of mind for a captain.

The only issue for me is the fact the press would be all over it as if Angelina Jolie was spotted in the Toon without her wedding ring on...

What I think is necessary is for the club and Colo to state an agreed position.

If it is anything other than "Sorry to have been a nuisance - - my mind has cleared and I'm here for 4 more years" then it should include a statement by Colo that he beleives it would be better for a new captain to be named. Limit damage to the greatest degreee possible

    I agree.

If he wanted to leave Newcastle simply to play for another club, then he should not be captain.

But according to what we are being told, his intention was to leave even with no other job in the offing as these "personal problems" gave him no choice. If that is the situation, then it was not about disloyalty or lack of commitment to Newcastle and he should retain the captaincy.

Even if you have no sympathy for the guy, I think it is important to keep him right now especially as there are so many other changes in the team. If he feels appreciated, that could really help as we know the loyalty of the fans has meant a lot to him. A show of support despite the anxiety he has caused us recently would be confirmation that such loyalty is real.
