I have the pleasure of watching Scottish football live once a year. Granted usually at least semi pissed, as any other way would be too much pain. Records in that league are meaningless. If anyone in a better league sees something in him he would have gone by now. Same reason as why Rhodes is at Blackburn, not in the prem.
That Celtic side beat Barcelona. Why? cos they have some good players. Just English snobbery to write the whole SPL off & every player who plays in it
The Odemwhinger will be less than that. What about this much vaunted Goufran chap?? Available for £1.5m I hear? Mr Habib Habib?? What happened to him?
Odemwhinger is 31-32 yrs. Is that just what we trying to avoid? Hooper is just 24 and just coming to the top.....
Some people need to forget about the fee, he cant be on that much if Norwich are interested so the fee plus wages will be cheaper than signing Zamora.
Don't forget all of Middlesbrough's SPL signings a few years ago - the majority of them were poor Championship players.
I would take Hooper. We seem to have a few big strikers who can (or are supposed to) win headers and hold the ball up - Betty and Zamora, but only one quick striker (Remy). Campbell for me would be ideal to be our 4th striker but it seems he is going.
the SPL is ****e, its one NPC side and the rest are l1 and l2 standard but hooper is a natural finisher, he will score at any level. I think Rhoades would PL standard too.
If Taarabt would have scored couple goals more our situation could be considerably better. So Jelavic has scored six times....? If we only have a striker who'd scored six times. Hooper would have scored ......
He's scored 7, Fellaini has scored 9; of the 47 goals they've scored so far, sx players have scored 4 or more. They share the goal scoring burden at that club.
Hateley was a washed up 34yo. Hooper would be making his PL debut with a chance to get in the England squad, massive difference.
I'm not having a go at Taarabt, he's not a centre-forward, I'm pointing out that Jelavic, a centre-forward at the team 5th in the league, has scored only 2 more goals than a midfielder at the bottom team in the league. My point is that we'll never know if Hooper can do it at Premiership level until he's given a chance, I however, would not spend up to £10m taking that chance when that money could be spent on a less risky acquisition. There's a very good reason why hardly any players come down from the Scottish league and do well in the Premiership. I can't think of any in recent times? Petrov maybe? Boyd, no. Miller, no. Robson, no. Hutton, no. McDonald, no.
Anyway he will have his 25th birthday on saturday so he considerably younger and eager than "attila" on his days in hoops. Even if he cost about 7-9 million he would be bargain. At least if you compared him with other young british stars Stuart Downing Aston Villa -> Liverpool 20 million ,Jordan Henderson Sunderland-> Liverpool 18 million, Jack Rodwell Everton-> Manchester City 15 million and the creme la creme Andy Carroll Newcastle Utd. -> Liverpool 35 million! ! ! I'd take Hooper anyday before those four expensive british flops......
Just on a side note, are we saying that Andy Carroll is a flop or WAS a flop? As far as i can see, he just does a specific job, and does it well. he may get stick but he does "what it says on the tin" ! Sorry...carry on..
Norwich are really trying to get him and have made fourth bid to Celtic. I might sound like a broken record with this Hooper issue, but i really hope that he dont come to haunt us saturday.........
