Wonderful news, hate Simon Grayson's delusions and attitude with his face like an overdone Jacket Potato. Good Riddance. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21184105 He's the sort of manager that if Charlton were to ever appoint him, it would really test my support. That list also comprises Brian Laws, Gary Megson and Danny Wilson. But never Ronnie Moore.
Over a third of league managers sacked and we are well short of two-thirds through the season. My heart does not bleed for most of them as they usually get a big payoff and another job, but some drop off the roundabout each time, mainly the older ones. But I wonder how many younger & talented managers are permanently lost this way? Some for sure, but not too many. Those with ability and stickability find a route back through non-league soccer. Interesting with all the speculation and stats published in desperation to fill webpages and newspapers I don't remember ever seeing a survey of that aspect of the game. I have been waiting for someone to tip their hat in Moore's direction. An honest and effective player for us, and with a competent managerial record. But he is really excelling himself this season. Who would have expected Tranmere to be where they are and all done on a tiny budget and squad and injuries to key players?
Just extended his contract there - good for him. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21178752 Anyone remember the game against Rotherham when he and Tony Towner destroyed us at The Valley? Towner kept slinging it over and Moore kept banging it in. They never reproduced that form for us when they signed, but Moore's inspired switch from striker to CB made him one of the best defenders I've ever seen at the club. And I've always wondered whether that story about his dog walking back up North because he was homesick was true.
