Interesting tweets ...

Wayne Gardiner ‏@mrwayneg
Now might be the best/worst time to say I've been working with Becchio for the past two months on his book. This adds spicy chapter at least

Wayne Gardiner ‏@mrwayneg
All I can go on is info I've had from player and agent which was he wanted to stay and sign new deal. Last convo on that was on Monday.

Wayne Gardiner ‏@mrwayneg
My 'Becchio wants to stay' tweet is probably simplistic, but that's what agent has told me. Two sides to stories, I know. That's all I got.

Don't know if I'd read too much into that. If Becchio's talking to this guy with a view to having a biography written, Becchio will no doubt tell him things to make himself look better in our eyes. Chances are he probably did want to stay and we failed yet again to show any ambition, but I'll reserve judgement until I see it from a more reliable source.

The money we would get for Becchio would not be reinvested in the team. It will go straight into GFH pocket with the rest of the money they will milk the club for<ok>

Amazing how often club have told lies with their statements when players are sold and certain fans opt to believe the club. It was the same when Bates was the sole owner. So easy turning some against players who have been loyal for years

Oh well. I'm a bit gutted but probably not surprised. It makes the last week of the window a bit more interesting for us, and we will get to see what GFH are all about, or whether it's a case of 'same ****, different day'.

I do hope Becchio does go abroad, and he will leave with my best wishes as he's become a bit of a cult hero at Leeds, and also one of our highest ever goal scorers.

I can't really question his loyalty, and I dont blame him at 29 for trying to give it one last go in a better league with a possibility of earning a far bigger salary. He may or may not succeed, but he'll never know if he doesn't give it a shot. It would have been nice to see him in a Leeds squad in the Premier League, but that ain't going to happen. The guy doesn't owe us anything, and if we do manage to achieve a good price for him, and we were to re invest this in more quality I'll be more than happy. But this is a big if and as I said earlier, this will go some way towards us knowing what GFH is all about. Let's face it, there are lots of players out there who are better than Becchio.

Hang on a minute!

Who's going to buy his book? Leeds fans.
Anyone else? Nope.
Worst kind of marketing/publicity? Leaving club before publication!
Sales expected if leaves club. 0.

So why bother telling us about good things if no-one is going to read it? If he was planning to leave, the book would have been out at Christmas!

Becchio is 29 and has seen his best days, he needs to move on for financial reasons and I accept that. The only sad thing is that we will not see any money raised from his sale due to GFH requiring to recoup some of the money they gave to Bates (advisor for GFH)

I disagree, the best thing for publicity is controversy. People would want to know the full story (which would really be his side of it), and regardless of whether he leaves or not, he's still something of a cult hero for most fans, and has a place in our top ten league scorers as well. It would be perfectly natural for fans to buy his book, whether he's with us or not at the time.

Good on him, he`s 29 with a family and he`s served us well. It must be hard playing in a team that just hoofs it.
