So with Becchio presumably on his way out, what does this mean for the squad and the tactics we employ? On the plus side, our defence may realise without a tall bloke up front they may have to pass it to another white shirt rather hit it and hope the big guy will pick it up. Obviously the negative is we lose a 20 (maybe even 30 this year, he way he's going) goal a season striker. But providing we get a decent fee, which is more than plausible, and it is ALL reinvested in the squad (less plausible), it may not be such a travesty. We do, lest we forget, possess another 20 goal a season striker in McCormack, and last season when Becchio was out was probably the period in which we played our best football and got arguably our best results. If we sign a mobile forward, with good footballing technique, who runs the channels and does the donkey work for McCormack (basically what Keogh did while he was here, but preferably someone who scores slightly more) it might not be so bad. Definitely searching for some remote positives here that probably don't exist, but I do think we played some great football when Becchio wasn't in the squad last year. As far as replacements go, I'm not sure we can replace him with another striker guaranteed to score 20 a season, in terms of his transfer fee and the wages the striker would demand. What we could probably settle for though is someone who can hit 10 a season, and be the perfect foil for McCormack to score another 20 to even things out. Not sure on who out there would be possible and realistic that could do a job straight away, but I do like the look of Will Grigg from Walsall as a future potential player for this role. Obviously we need someone who can come in and do a job right away, but Grigg's contract is up at the end of the season, he's young, still raw and a bit rough around the edges but he has talent, pace, mobility, power and good technique, could be worth a punt, seeing as it's unlikely we'll be going out and signing someone of real quality. If we do choose to go 4-4-2 with McCormack and another up front, we definitely need at least one winger as well. Tonge can do a job on the left and Green does a job on the right, but natural width would improve us no end. If we sell Becchio, sign a decent winger, a replacement forward to compliment McCormack and maybe even a LB, maybe things wouldn't be quite so bad? Clutching at straws now, I know, but just trying to think of this in the most positive manner I can
