Zaha is 'the next big thing' alledgedly, the next 'Rooney' if you like and Fergie can probably see that. While I would be ecstatic if we managed to sign Gary Hooper, no way is he worth £15M. Zaha is playing in The Championship which is IMO far more competitive than the EPL and, no WUM intended, a far better quality than the SPL
Hooper is playing in the CL which is a far better quality than ... Besides, Hooper has already played in the Championship (and scored 43 goals in 2 seasons, whilst playing for a team battling relegation, rather than at the top - like Zaha). So I fail to understand your point.
Why even bother AP? How does this ***** know what the quality of the SPL is? He's probably seen less than a handful of games from it.
True, I haven't really seen much and can really only go by hearsay. However, Celtic may be a huge club and are top of their league but come on FFS, the second placed team have an average attendance of 3,900 (ICT), you are playing in a tinpot league like it or not. Look, I didn't come on your board to fall out with anybody, I was just merely making an observation don't take it so seriously bhoys.
It is a rare thing that I fall out with people on this humble portal but I have to take umbrage with this. 1) You concede you have not seen much of the SPL. Therefore you concede your opinion is based on not very much. 2) You cite the crowd of ICT to evidence your opinion. This is not evidence of the quality of league. 3) You fail to address the eloquently made point with regards the previous successes of Hooper in the English Championship. 4) You fail to address the point made with regards to the success of Hooper in the Champions league. Gary Hooper played exceptionally well in a number of games in our Europa league campaign last season. It would be accurate to say that Hooper has played at a higher level, it would be accurate to say he has performed consistently well at a higher level. It would be accurate to say Gary Hooper has shown himself to be extremely adaptable. It would be accurate to say that Gary Hooper has shone in games far bigger than Zaha has. Player for player, Hooper has done more. Zaha may very well be the next big thing, but if all you have is "The SPL is a **** league...but I don't actually know for sure" then you need to revise the argument. Your observations on the quality of the league are one thing but can you explain to me how that relates to Zaha having to prove himself in more difficult environs? If both teams are seeking to win in a competitive game is it not true that there is more of a focus on attack by both teams? Poor old Gary Hooper has to contend with a bank of 5 and 4 every single week. He has shown he can cope with that as well as getting less of the ball in the CL. Imagine how much room he'd get against attack minded sides in an attack minded division.
Aye but you're picking and choosing your stats. We've got teams in Division 3 who get 40,000+ every home game - how many teams in English League 2 get those kind of attendances? <UpTheSevco>
I went to see Burnley once. In the FA cup against Barnet at Underhill.... Can't remember the game but I do remember a boy running up and down steps in the away end to get away from the feds. Mitchell Thomas played for Burnley. I remember that. I shall regale you with more cool stories some other time.
Burnley is just another dump in the wasteland that is Lancashire/Yorkshire. The entire place is like that film The Omega Man but with more whippets
That idiot from Burnley reckons Ferguson has seen , a new Rooney in this young Kid he is paying a kings ransom for coming from the Championship. Does he not Know that Fergie has spent similar fortunes on similar aged players year after year and a large percentage have turned out to have been duds. Most other Managers have to be more careful with their money. According to our Burnley idiot, it doesn't matter, who is on the pitch as long as you have a large attendance ICT useless because only 4,000 attend. How are His neighbours Wigan doing so well week after week in EPL , there numbers are Not too hot.
