Surely they should concentrate their efforts on a tyre of maximum grip and performance. Generally its a trade off between performance and durability. Durability may have been a consideration in the time of competing tyre manufacturers but surely when it is a stand alone provider the concentration should surely be on performance alone. Tyres will be at peak of performance to the point they won't last the race as a consequence and not an intention.

Maybe in talking out of me arse as I'm quite intoxicated :D

Jenson Button wants more accessible tyres in 2013 F1 season

Jenson Button believes Pirelli should focus on widening the operating window of its 2013 tyre compounds in order to make the Formula 1 playing field fairer. Button said some teams and drivers had 'lucked in' to working the tyres properly, while others had been undermined by an inability to do so.

Rubbish, did not see him complaining after the first four races, that may sound strong but if it was down to luck then why even after seven different winners in seven races did we still have Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel at the top of the championship. He went the wrong way with his setup which caused him to have tyre issues.

I agree that the tyres should have a wider working range but totally disagree with the assertion that some people 'lucked' into making the tyres work at the start, if that was the case we would not of had Alonso and co leading the championship even at that point in the season.

In a funny way the most restricted selections of tyres gave the best racing we saw this season (Abu Dhabi, Brazil, USA)

Maybe the tracks are the ones to blame for boring races, not aero or tyres.

Agreed, could be a case of getting his excuses in early...

He's a racing driver, now that the seasons over they're on intense "racing driver excuses" course over the winter. He's just trying a few out now <ok>

Really wish they'd stop changing the colour scheme. How on earth do they keep messing something so simple up?

So higher tyre wear again in the early part of the season and nervy qualifying sessions for the top teams. Perfect :D

So it now goes orange - white - yellow - red. Seems a bit counterintuitive but I did always think that the hard and mediums were tricky to tell apart.

I'm glad they've gone for orange instead of the dark grey... it looked they'd forgotten to put the markings on!

I've got a little article about the tyres on my blog here: wp.me/p2W76e-cj

Im glad they changed to Orange too though I think Purple has been overlooked. Well I hope these tyres keep to promise and offer more pitstops as some races last year lasted a single stop and was a bit boring. I prefer to see a challenge rather than an endurance.

It should not all be about degradation though, remember one of the most exiting races last year was in Austin and that was a one stop race, because it was all about warm up and being aggressive on the those first few laps of the tyre

yeah but most of the excitement was about it being a new track. The un rubbered start line spiced it up a bit too.

I wonder how much more grip the softer wets and inters will give? I hope not too much; I love seeing the drivers trying to wrestle with the car.

According to Paul Hembry the new tyres will give better traction but increased thermal deg. I don't see it being a problem unless they are on wets on a damp track and inters on a dry track.

Oh ok, I knew about the softer compounds and increased traction, but not increased thermal deg, thanks <ok>
