@StringerSport Nigel Pearson has confirmed that Sean St Ledger is a couple of weeks away from being match fit. Zak Whitbread "not far away" either #lcfc Maybe we dont need a new centre half after all. With him nearly playing on Friday against Boro and with Nigel saying that it implies he is already fit but just not ready to return. It will be like having a new player. I personally think we have looked our best defensively when St. Ledger has partnered Wes Morgan at the back
Personally, I hope we can extend the loan of Keane, as he looks a class apart. Think SAF wanted to ensure that we would still be up there in contention before he would agree to a season end loan. Dont think Whitbread or SSL would dislodge him from the starting XI if he signs til the end of the season.
But would he walk back into the team? Not in my eyes. You don't fix what isn't broken and 1 goal conceded since Boxing day suggests the defence is doing its job.
Im not saying he would walk into the team. As thinks stand the shirts belong to Wes Morgan and Michael Keane. Until they lose their form they will keep the shirts but we can only improve by getting St. Ledger fit. As things stand Keane's loan expires after the Wolves game so we need to sort that out I dont rate Whitbread
I've always loved The Saint (as he's affectionately known within my group of mates) after he won me 60-odd quid by scoring first in one of Rep of Ireland's games at the Euros! Will be glad to have him back in the squad, though not necessarily the first team, as the only likely reasons I can see for him returning to the first XI are a Morgan injury or Keane returning to United. Morgan and Keane are 2nd and 3rd respectively behind Wood as our best performers over the last 5 games for me.
1 player who has really impressed me recently has been Paul Konchesky. I think he has been solid defensively and created alot of chances going forward.
Can only be a good thing to have St Ledger back, he was excellent before his injury vs Bristol City at home. He won't walk back into the side, but it's competition and strength in depth.
Really? I thought he was **** on Friday and by far our weakest player. He did get forward alright, but all he did was foul the opposition.
Im with AKCJ, Konchesky is a loose wire when it comes to defending, doesn't play well with kids if they get past him. RE: SStL, id agree that hes not going to walk back into the team seeming Keane has made little to no errors. Dont take a player whos on form out for one that has just come back from injury.
Yeah I think Konch has been very good recently. Boro only really created 2 openings and that come through a bad bit of defending by Ritchie De Laet where McDonald hit it over when he should have brought it down and the other came from when they Ledesma beat the offside trap but hit it wide The rest of shots came from distance other then the penalty of course.
Konch seems to take a lot of stick from a number of supporters. He has had only one really poor performance all year when Zaha made a muppet out of him. Other than that he has been pretty solid. He has given away a few free kicks sure, but what left back in this league hasnt?
Admittedly im not Konchesky's biggest fan but he had done a very good job for us this season. At times he is rash and does give away alot of free kicks but he is still one of the best left backs in the league and he gives his all
It's quite harsh but I think that Konch may be moved on in the summer which ever division we are in. I do like St. ledger, but in my eyes you can't take the place away from Keane ATM. St Ledger is a very good back up though and if Keane does lose form or get injured, I don't see St Ledger as a step down just a different approach for our defence to take. When St Ledger got back into the team earlier on in the season was when we hit form and when Keane came into the team for the second time after his injury we have hit form again. Maybe it's Whitbread that was the reason for our earlier downtown in form?
