  2. So do you think the ball ball should receive punishment too? Especially considering you can receive a years ban for something as minute as performing hand gestures as a fan <doh>

Nobody thinks violence is the correct response. Nobody is saying the red card was unjust. And nobody is saying he doesn't deserve the three game ban as a result. But to point the finger solely at Hazard here is wrong IMO, the ball boy wrongly held the ball too long. Its effectively cheating for the club, mush like clubs aren't allowed to have towels at the side of the pitch anymore unless they're provided to both teams. Maybe Swansea have something to answer too since it wasn't just the one ball boy either

To be honest Nevin is the best pundit going, and usually very unbiased.

The ball boy (age 17) was a little cheating **** - but Hazard was wrong too. Red card was probably fair.

It's also hard to tell whether or not Hazard meant it - and the ball boy faked his hurt really obviously.

Bit hyperbolic to be 'totally disgusted' by it.

He's become a cartoon hate figure, as most outside of your fanbase think he's a prize cock.

Why? because of all of the various different actions that HE'S taken, on the field of play.

Add into that, the fact that he's a very talented footballer & you get the ideal recipe for a media target, but it's his own making mate. <ok>

Its par for the course for the chavs, but tbh I don't care that much.
I do however feel that the FA are in a complete mess as to how they deal with this. Their recent bans for players have been all over the place, Barton 12 games, Suarez 8 games, Terry scot free.

Not given Hazard's reaction. He can now plausibly claim that he only ended up on the ball because Hazard pushed him down, and from then on Hazard continuously had his hands on him. Otherwise the ball boy should have been banned from working there any more (aren't they unpaid volunteers anyway?).

The thing is we know he brings most of it on himself, it's the magnification of everything he does by the press that rankles.<grr>

  9. Not when the video footage clearly shows otherwise. Just for the record, the fan that abused Cantona before the infamous flying kick got a seven day prison sentence for abusive language <ok>

No idea on the volunteer bit although at seventeen years old it is perhaps time it stopped doing it anyway <laugh>

No he can't, as that's clearly not what happened.

He dived on the ball in order to try & waste time, after having let it roll past him.

It was comical & tbf to the lad they'll have been told to 'slow it down' if Swansea were ahead late on, as it happens at grounds every week!

In all fairness, and as much as I hate Chelsea (and Hazard) I really can't see how people are making this out to be so disgusting. The kid had to be at least 16, and was clearly acting disgracefully. Secondly, Hazard didn't kick the ball boy, he kicked the ball in an attempt to dislodge it, and his foot may or may not have touched the ball boy. However the boy did his best premier league impersonation of being shot in the side and rolled around (as a ball boy he'd have seen plenty of examples), and then gestured at the ref.

You can't go around kicking ball boys and yes it was a red. Hazard should have just waited for the ball, ref would have added time.

I can't see how people are getting so angry at Hazard, I reckon most people would have done the same (which in my eyes, wasn't much).

EDIT: Turns out the kid was 17. not 10-12...

'Have you ever been injured or in an accident at work that wasn't your fault?'

The ball boy posted this on his twitter feed just hours before the game, 'The king of all ball boys is back making his final appearance #needed #for #timewasting'. You can see it here - https://twitter.com/CHARLIEM0RGAN. I was listening to talkshite in the car last night and they were saying there was also a picture of him drinking lager on there. It's actually a bottle of Magners, but anyway he is 17 so it doesn't matter!

Bearing all this in mind there's still no way Hazard should have done that, and I don't know why if he was in his right mind he decided to kick out. It's not an appropriate or reasonable response to timewasting, which was obviously the ball boy's intention. They use more than one match ball in games so it probably would've been quicker to get another ball thrown to him from the touchline. The irony is that the ball boy hasn't just timewasted, he's got Hazard sent off, was that premeditated as well? One has to wonder.

There's no way Hazard could see the ball when he kicked out so he's gone in blind, even if he claims he was trying to kick it from under the kid he's left with no defence since any accuser will just say it was reckless.

One presenter on Talkshite was suggesting Hazard should be banned for the rest of the season with a massive fine, I think the likelihood is he'll get several matches out.

Anyway what was that about football fans liking a bit of controversy, come on, we live for this stuff just as much as a good result and when it comes along lap it up like dogs that have been stuck in hot cars all day, I even watched the highlights of this most boring of boring games last night just to see it, no way I would have bothered if this incident hadn't happened.

I'm sure it does, but he's not the first & he won't be the last. It's always high profile players who blot their copy books in some way, who become the targets, it's a well worn path. But it's also a path that they can change, by keeping their noses clean & letting their boots do their talking............

You have to feel a bit sorry for Arsenal. They beat West Ham 5-1 yesterday but no one cares.
