Saw this on the Newcastle board, the story comes from the Mirror.

Surely they wouldn't be so stupid as to do this...

SOLDIERS who carry out the team flags before the FA Cup Final tomorrow will not be allowed to stay and watch. Instead, they will be taken to a nearby pub to follow the biggest game in the FA calendar on TV. A source said: “It’s just incredible. Everyone was under the impression that they would be guests of honour and get to enjoy the football. “Instead, they’ll be turfed out of the stadium just as the match kicks off. Everyone was in shock when they were told. It was a real kick in the teeth. “Some of them were pleading and saying they would be happy to stand by the side of the pitch and watch, but they were told they would not be allowed. There were a lot of angry people.” The soldiers, most of them Scots, will be invited to an England Euro 2012 qualifying game at Wembley instead. Event360, the company responsible for recruiting the 50 volunteers to take part in the opening spectacular, was not answering calls last night. An MoD spokesman said: “The soldiers were made aware before they volunteered that tickets would not be available for the FA Cup Final.”

Its not a suprise in all honesty
The tickets for the game have probably been sold and they would not be allowed to stand at the side of the pitch as only police and stewards are allowed
If I was them I wouldn't bother turning up at all

Cannot be true. Probably just an analogy by the Mirror drawing our attention to the way we treat our troops generally...

Send them to illegal or pointless wars with rubbish equipment and against enemies they can't see. Call the dead victims heroes and the live ones redundant...

Over here, after being combat trained and skilled up to drive trucks, load bombs or whatever, they've got almost nothing to do except spend endless hours on the piss. Then it all kicks off at closing time. My battle hardened nephew got done for GBH whilst off his face and did a four year stretch in Chelmsford and Colchester...

Join the British army lads... gateway to a complete piss take.

    Rant over.

If that's the total truth, and I'd imagine there's more to it, then it's disgraceful.

Would anyone really mind if they stood near the tunnel or something like that?

Unbelievable. One of the few things they do right over here is treat their service men and women like celebrities - front row seating, discounted tickets, I've even heard about them being applauded when in uniform walking down the street. This is just so disrespectful, more so if these guys have served in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Servicemen and women overhere don't need celebrity status, just a little bit of RESPECT, something they have earnt from the working class.
The only stock the FA (Fooking Arseholes) have on the increase is Their Laughing Stock. Sack the lot of them. They should be charged with Disrepute for bringing he National game down.
