Ball-boy etiquette

I find it very difficult to call that assault.

 

Forget his age. If you lay a hand on someone (and you don't even need to touch them!), it's assault. A criminal offence. If I kicked you in the ribs in the same fashion outside a pub, I'd expect to be arrested if it was witnessed by a cop. Even Chelsea fans are having a dig at the official Chelsea tweet. 'Disgracing the colours' is one of the milder phrases. And they're right.

 

And "minors" need to learn not to be a prick to adults

 

And if I deserved it I'd take it like a man.

 

You wouldn't get a choice, though. Cop would decide. Now if it was live on television, and it was a well known millionaire footballer, the cops would probably have been checking how shiny the polish was on their boots!

 

Given the fact the police are "investigating" it, I think you might be right, but there's a big disconnect between what does happen and what I think should happen.

 

Unfortunately being a prick to adults isn't illegal, and it's his parents job to teach him that it's wrong. In an ideal world yes, kids would get a bit too cocky and they'd get a slap for it, but it would be discrete and would be quickly forgotten about by all except those involved. But we're not in an ideal world, and it's never acceptable for a role model in the public spotlight to assault anybody - it sets a bad example. Forget for a second that it's entirely illegal and by law he should be arrested and stand trial for assault on a minor.

 

Hasn't there been cases of footballers being up in court for kicking the ball into the crowd?

 

I haven't once said its not illegal. But I have said I think he deserves it entirely if not a harsher punishment which he won't get I guarantee and there's not much more to say on the matter

Lucky he didnt start a riot to be honest. Someone had a pop at my kid like that regardless of who he was he would be counting his teeth when he came back around.

I must admit I thought he was about 12 watching on TV, if he is older and had intentions to do exactlly what he did then its a bit more understandable but by no means right.

Since the multiball system was introduced all ball boys slow it down where nessasary to give the home team an advantage & get the ball back in as quickly as they can when again it works for the home team. Its bias, and maybe not fair but surely thats a little bit of extra home advantage that in princable should even itself out.

Imagine if Diouffy did that. <can o worms>
