Arsenal will never be real contenders until they get consistent. Can be a joy to watch, but never quite churn out enough results. A team of their stature should at least be still in the race at this time of the season. Anyway great result...helps make up a bit for ruining our GD for so long.
A very frustrating team to follow I imagine. My son's an arsenal fan (should never have taken him to Highbury when he was 9, but hey ho), and I can testify to the fact that it's not only Saints who suffer. I still maintain they've over achieved under Wenger, when you compare their wage bill to that of both Manc teams and Chelsea - and aren't they a joy to watch sometimes?
The Invincibles team with Henry and co was my favourite ever team, and I would always prefer to see Arsenal win over other "big" clubs, but I can help but feel maybe Wenger has done all he can there, and it's time for someone else to have a go.
They have that legendary moniker, Boring Arsenal. In truth, they left that tag behind about 15-20 years ago. But it's still the first thing I think of. The problem under Wenger is that they've grown to love themselves playing football too much, and are not truly content unless they can walk the ball into the net. That attitude may be bloody entertaining for the neutral, but if an opposition defence is sturdy enough, they can spend almost the entire 90 minutes knocking on the door, with a '0' next to their club name. In contrast, the opposition can dash up the other end and quickly score a couple or three.
Arsenal always have been one of my favorite non-Saints teams. Play football the right way, live within their means and try and nurture young talent, just a shame its normally our young talent.
