Our erstwhile Captain (Brede, that is) may not be having his best season, compared to his previous high standard, but he's not doing too badly at all. He is still at the top of the premiership in winning the ball in the air; being successful nearly 76% of the time. And this may surprise some, his distribution is not only accurate but also high in terms of the number of passes made (nearly 1000). Here is a link to an article giving the low down on his performance - http://blog.squawka.com/2013/01/21/top-5-best-in-the-air-no-arsenal-as-fulham-everton-and-manchester-united-all-feature/
Alam Pardew must read this forum - "Newcastle United are plotting a move for Brede Hangeland. A 2-1 home defeat to Reading on Saturday has set alarm bells ringing at St James’ Park, with just two points now keeping the Magpies out of the relegation zone. As well as signing a top-quality striker to replace Demba Ba, Alan Pardew also wants to add more beef to his back four, and he has set his sights on Hangeland. The Norway international has been a rock in the heart of the Fulham defence since his arrival in January 2008, but he is now in the final six months of his contract. Pardew believes the 31-year-old would be a shrewd addition to his squad ahead of the 31 January deadline, and will bid £5million for his signature."
5 mil for Brede, a good deal, but what sort of replacement. ? a 35 yr old who at the moment cannot get into a division 2 first team, or someone who has been out injured for the last year.
Interesting stats on the big man. I am not sure his game had changed much but I think he has suffered from a lack of cover from midfield. That said he still remains calm and composed when in possession. If anything he m,ay have suffered a bit from captaincy issues. I remember Boa Morte becoming captain and his form slumped a bit under the pressure. I really hope he signs a new contract asap, he is by premiership standards a quality centre back.
Tonights QPR message board, seems to be getting excited about a possible Brede signing. but mind you a couple of posts do sayif signed, yet again it will be another Fulham financial stitch up
Harry's been blabbing, allegedly, although he's allegedly keen to distance himself. Allegedly. http://www.cottagersconfidential.com/2012/12/29/3815424/qprs-redknapp-denies-hangeland-link
I was expecting something along the lines of: 'Listen, Brede is a fantastic player, Bobby and Andy have both given him glowing references, and with Nelsen going, we are short at centre back, I'm not saying we're in for him, but he's over 30 and a current Fulham player, so exactly the type we're looking for. He hasn't had the greatest of seasons to be fair to the lad, so maybe he's looking for a fresh challenge, who knows? We can offer him more money than he's currently on, and he wouldn't have to move house of nuffin' but until the situation changes, I don't want to give anything away'
QPR have tabled a bid of £25m. We've rejected it as he's not as injury prone as we'd like him to be.
