http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/story-17920382-detail/story.html .. no arguing that the combination has paid dividends so far ...
It's a great combination, a bit like Campbell and Windass for us back in the promotion year. Older head with the young pretender.
Nuge isnt old and Wood isnt pretending Between them already I think they have set up the other to score 3 or 4 times
Older...... He's not pretending, I wish we'd have got him. The Brighton fans are gutted: they had Wood and Murray in recent times and now they can't score. Mackail Smith hasn't been the player they needed.
The brighton manager's judgement has to be brought into question letting murray go on the cheap then buying Maickail Smith who everybody knows is no good without his caravan and whippets... apparently loads of lead is disappearing off roofs in sussex..
We have the Best Defence in the League (best defence away from home). We one average face the fewest shots per game and generally always have more possession. Im sure we have only had less then 50% on 3 occasions all season? It has always been our attack that has let us down this season, mainly away from home. So if we could get it sorted then we would go up. Hopefully Nige has managed that with Wood. Wood and Nugent do seem to fit really well as a partnership. Although i think we still perhaps need to improve our attack away from home a little. We barely score away from home. How many times have we scored more then 1 away from home this season? I can only think of three times.
Only 7 times this season have we had less than 50% of possession. And of these times we have lost the possession battle we have only been 'out shot' once (Watford away) drawing once (Crystal Palace Home) the other five we had more shots Watford A Middlesborough H Nottingham Forest H Crystal Palace H Ipswich H Bolton A Blackburn A Looking at the stats I’m actually a little disappointed we are not challenging with Cardiff in terms of points. In only two games can I recall us perhaps deservingly losing Watford away and Crystal Palace Home. Even in these two matches it was hardly like we were battered.
Possession means nothing: goals win games which is why Wood will be your hero this year(if you go up)
It shows you've had the ball more (obviously) which means the other team has had to defend more. A couple of seasons ago under Sven and Sousa, i'd agree because we'd pass around our own defence. But we're so much more 'direct' (not in a long ball sense). Possession football can be very boring to watch, but if you watch the passing and moving of our team in the attacking third, then it's good entertainment. We're a joy to watch.
Kind of contradicting yourself a little in this one AKCJ - greater possession alone doesn't mean the opposition have to defend more - merely that they don't have the ball whilst you've got it ... what you go on to say I'd agree with, in terms of that having more possession in the final third is likely to mean that you are on top - and the more pressure you can exert on the oppositions increase the lieklihood that you will score - but it still doesn't guarantee that you will win a game .. the first leg of the Chelsea Swansea League Cup semi iwas a pretty good demonstration of that ..
You've got a good mix of playing style now. Proud, yes Wood and Nugent but I think Wood will be your top scorer this year.
Wood looks like an instinctive finisher .. Nugent isn't - if I had to bet I would take Wood provided both stay fit ... not just 'gut feeling' but based on an average of goals to championship appearences (i.e including Wood at Millwall) this season and that, as the main striker, Wood should now be getting chances that might have gone to Nuge before he arrived (and Nuge's conversion rate is nowhere near as good as Wood's as we have already witnessed ......
Did you not see the goal against Middlesborough? Nuge hasn't really missed any chances that Wood would have scored, now if your talking about the chances Waggy and Vardy have had, then yes, Wood would have put some of those away.
