Looks like Ashley has learned from the tragic January window of the 2008/09 season

    another twist....

    http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-wire/newcastle-target-suspended-by-his-club/?

We reported yesterday that Newcastle target, Moussa Sissoko, had been pulled out of the Toulouse squad to play PSG tonight.

French media reports claimed that a deal with Newcastle United was imminent.

Now Toulouse’s chairman, Olivier Sadran, has announced that Sissoko has been suspended due to the ongoing row over his future.

It was believed Newcastle’s initial interest was in getting the player to sign a pre-contract as he will be a free agent in the summer. However, it is now speculated that with Newcastle’s current predicament, United may want him to move in the January window.

The sticking point is that Toulouse would want compensating with a fee of 3m Euros the speculated figure,

    The Toulouse coach, Alain Casanova (class name!) has told L’Equipe that the whole club is behind the chairman’s decision to suspend Sissoko;

“The whole club shows full solidarity to the chairman’s decision.

It is really a shame that a player educated by the club could leave as a free agent. His absence is a big loss for the team but that decision is correct”.

It would appear that the player is definitely leaving and the only question is whether it is this month or in the summer, whether the conflict will help Newcastle United to land the player, only time will tell.

Newcastle should say, "look what's best for all those concerned is Moussa should depart this month and we feel 1.5 million euros is enough money, and is as much as we will offer to buy the remainder of his contract." the player arrives! Issue solved.

With a name like that he must be corruptible... If only we knew 4/5 classy Geordie ladies who we could send over to convince him round to our way of thinking <whistle>

Toulouse have two options. Reluctantly accept a lower offer from the Toon or make an example and keep him for 6 months but make him train with the reserves.
I expect Sissoko to maybe forgo some signing on fee to help the process but remain confident a deal will come about with him coming in January rather than the summer.

Makes more sense to everyone to be honest. I don't think we should be very coy or judgemental about this though, Colo is doing exactly the same thing really.

I think Colo is vastly different actually as he has 3.5 yrs left on his contract?!?!... and only wants to leave due to personal problems (i.e. he wouldn't go to any club except San Lorenzo)

But he's trying to force his way out of the club in the same manner. Both are personal problems really, they want to play for a different club, and both those different clubs are trying to negotiate down a fair price <ok>

Colo has requested a transfer, has not said a word in public and has continued to play well and in all other respects dfischarge his duty as club captain. His motivation is unknown, but it is not money. His request has been refused. I fully expect him to accept that decision.

Sissoko is trying to engineer a move for money, and has pissed people off enough to suspend him.

There does seem to be a bit of difference.

Well it would have been sorted sooner Gandalf, only this cockney bloke with a baggy face and lots of brown envelopes tried to steal us away, fortunately Mike threw a lifetime supply of Stotties into the negotiations to seal the deal, but it was touch and go for a minute.

They are playing harddball but they either take something or pay his wages and get nothing in the summer.

They will surrender in my opinion

Reading comments from the Toulouse chairman it seems we and the player were quite happy with a free transfer. But he has said Sissoko has three options 1.Sign a new contract 2. Move in January 3. Spend the rest of the season on the bench. Understandably they are upset at the prospect of receiving zero for one of their stars. It seems we and any other interested clubs are now caught in the middle of player/club dispute.

I understand their frustration but thats football contracts.

Hopefully we'll get a cracking player out of it but I imagine interest would be high, with wages being our sticking point to compete.

Give that MA gambled £1m on the roll of a roulette wheel once it wouldn't break his bank to chuck a cheeky £1m to the Toulouse owner.
If they kept Sissoko and let him rot it would probably cost them £400-£500k so it may tickle along a deal.
Failing that we could loan them Ranger (see what I did there) and/or Willo.
