Why would selling Pepe to Barca mean we could get Alonso from Madrid 'in return'?

Also, no we won't sell him. Not for at least another season no matter what the price (unless we're talking record fees). There's been too many soundbites from John Henry talking about keeping our best players, add that to Suarez signing a new contract recently and actually seeming happy at the club I can't see it, certainly not in January.

Silly rumour stirred up by the press to unsettle us once more. Happened all of last year with Juventus 'certain' to buy Suarez.

    ^ This!

We are blessed with one of the top 5 footballers in the world. He is our chance of getting to the top and our chance of attracting more talent......why would we sell him? Who would we buy? Keep him happy, get top 4, then push for the top! (all requires more investment though). <ok>

  3. I understand this and totally agree with where you are coming from. However, what if we are short on cash? FSG keep saying they want the club to be self-sustaining so what if selling Suarez for X means we can buy A, B & C...? I'm not saying we should sell, nor am I saying I want us to, I am being realistic.

If someone offered us £1b for him, would we accept it? Damn right we would! If someone offered £1.50 we would let them where to go! Somewhere inbetween is a meeting point, a tipping point if you like. The only question is, what is that point...? £40m? £60m? £100m?

    As above, seems only logical.

I can't see why he would leave. We're only ('only') seven points off a CL place and this season, outside the top two, results/teams are proving fairly unpredictable and inconsistent so we have a chance of squeezing in there if we get a break and results swing it our way.

Suarez also seems to enjoy his role as our talisman, top star and agent provocateur, plus he sounds happy with the Sturridge partnership.

Of course the cynic in me is aware that money talks louder than anything and a big European club could sweet talk us/him/his agent, but surely the way forward is let him play his game and get some better talent in.

But £1b isn't realistic is it?

If someone offered £60m, a more realistic figure, I wouldn't want it. Why? Suarez remains our only hope of making it into the top 4. Let's put it another way, if Suarez was available at another club, let's say for £40m.....would we be able to buy him? No is the answer. (1) because we would be behind the likes of Chelsea, Utd, Barca etc, etc....and (2) because our owners will not stump up for him. So you see, if Suarez goes, the so called big job to get to top 4 gets bigger. I would only sell him when he has 2 years on his contract with no intention to resign... <ok>

Wow, what is wrong with everyone. We have startd playing well and have started to put together some form of consistancy so people start talking about selling all of our stars.

I dont want to think about selling Suarez and Reina.

Similar to death, I know one day it will happen, but that doesnt mean im gonna spend a summers day arranging my funeral...

    FFS...Doom and Gloom..

In My opinion if FSG sell Suarez instead of trying to build a team he wants to play in, then their purpose is clear, develop young players, sell them, make money......If this is their agenda they can **** off!!!!

But for now ill give them the benefit of the doubt..

The top quality will want Champions League football so we won't get them anyway. I vote to keep him, but there was no poll <doh>

Every player has their price, but in this case Suarez will only move on, if he decides that he wants to imo.

Whether or when that might happen will depend on who shows an interest & what's potentially on the table for him, simple as that really.

If one of the Spanish or Italian giants started whispering in his agents ear this summer, I think you'd be daft not to expect him to be interested, particularly if there's no CL football at Anfield next season.

  9. I never said £1b was realistic but then, nor is £1.50! You seem to have completely missed my point too <ok>

You say you wouldn't take £60m, what about £70m? £80m? Or £100m? There HAS to be a point that your opinion will change, this will inevitably be BEFORE reaching £1b. So back to my point... the question is, where is the tipping point? It is as simple as if we value him higher than a club wanting to buy him, he doesn't go! If someone is willing to give us more than we value him at, he does go. Hence, a tipping point.

I also reiterate my point above of me not wanting him to go or thinking we should sell him either <ok>

I don't want to sell him because I just bought a shirt with his name on the back. And up until that point, I always had my own name on my back.

    Don't leave Suarez ... don't leave ...

I would say about £90m. His true value is about £60m and CL qualification would be worth about £30m.

Food for thought - Prices are usually inflated because the buying clubs look at the marketing value of a player - Ronaldo is a world class player but his value was boosted because of the amount of commercial revenue he can bring in.

I feel Suarez's antics may have impacted on his image globally so getting anything above £50m might prove tricky?? ..

Suarez is more valuable too us than £40m. Just like Rafa turned down £75m for Torres.

  17. Take this as an example. You value him at £90m thinking this will scare away most clubs but then one comes in and offers £95m. You would obviously accept it. Every player has a price.

Look at Man Utd with Ronaldo, they didn't want to sell nor did they need to but they did because they got a world record £80m for him. Obviously, it is slightly different because they player wanted to leave too.

I think the whole 40m was based on a alleged buyout clause. So if this were to be true (Which I very highly doubt) We wouldn't be able to get more than 40m?
