As were Spurs. We still managed to finish above all of them. I don't hide the fact that we need to improve if we're going to finish above Spurs this season, but it's still well within our grasp to do so. I also don't agree with the sentiment that 4th is 'unacceptable'. We can all have a wish list, the reality this season is that 4th will be a decent finish.
Of course its not . But his praise for coming from behind glosses over the REASONS we are coming from behind. If the defence is like the keystone cops ....do something about it. all we here is cr@p like " we were sloppy in the first half ............. we didnt really turn up today...........i thought they were a little bit lucky ..etc etc etc ." Of course that will happen some times...but its getting to be so often that we dont expect anything else. Its bullsh1t , its wearing thin .
all this talk of what we did LAST year is depressing but ill go with it . Everyone knows we got 4th last year by the skin of our teeth , with Judas on board and on fire. Well now hes on board and on fire for someone else. But we are still going to make the top 4 ? Tell me what you see that gives you such confidence. We cant score , we cant defend ........... 34 points from 22 games is poor. Im more worried about the teams that are just BELOW us , than the ones above. A few more duff performances and we will be looking up at them , not 4th place.
You find it tiresome, well those are the facts, you may not like it, but they're facts. Maybe you'd prefer everyone to keep their head in the sand and pretend everything's fine, and act like scrapping for 4th spot, and possibly achieving it, hides all the facts I mention. The fact you find my arguments tiresome, proves you are in delusion, contrary to what you always say when getting called out, SHOW ME WHERE I THINK THINGS ARE FINE SHOW ME SHOW ME SHOW ME. Well if you truly believed things aren't good enough, then you'd be fully agreeing with me, rather than finding those facts tiresome. You're one of the blind optimists living in the bubble wanting to act like most things are fine, and that simply scrapping for 4th is good enough, now you will say SHOW ME WHERE I SAID THAT, SHOW MEEEEEEE. You imply it with the way you act, and things you've written, as others have mentioned, and this right here, calling my statements, which are all facts, 'tiresome', is another proof of that. You're a member of the blinker brigade.
Facts are facts, I could join the blinker brigade and talk a load of **** filled with blind deluded optimism and where we pretend most things are fine. Run in for 4th place= holy grail to the blinker brigade.
Ah yes and then he whines about being insulted when countered and wonders why nobody takes him seriously.
Ain't nobody countered me so far. As for no one taking me seriously, the stooges of the blinker brigade, don't count for everybody, there are quite a few on here who do agree with a lot of what I say, so don't act like you speak for everybody.
By implication. As I've said on many times, IMPLICATION. The way they go on about it 24-7. It has become their holy grail.
Well you can interpret it differently and however you want, fact is, i'm not the only one who sees it that way.
What is true, is that we as a club have regressed. And that's something the blinker brigade don't like hearing, they'd like to pest us with false optimistic bull ****.
We have regressed, that is true. But we have regressed for a number of reasons, some of which were outside of the clubs control and some that weren't. You will notice that our barren period has been at a time when firstly Chelsea and then Man Citeh could throw seeming endless amounts at cash to purchase every player they wanted. This also caused a massive increase in the wages that players could get, subsequently causing several of our players to jump ship at the promise of £200K per week etc. We have also during this time paid off most of the debt of what is quite a nice stadium that means that we can start to compete financially with the giants of World football. Personally our minimal aim at the start of this season and previous recent seasons because of the cash of the Mancs and Chels and because of our restrictions has been to qualify for the champions league. Note that this is the minimal requirement. Hopefully with more cash being available we may be able to buy some World class players and start to hold onto our better players, but this will not really happen until the summer. So for this year, hopefully we can still get 4th and offer players the lure of champions league football. Next year hopefully we will be better.
If you mean from 2005/06 until now in comparison to Wenger's earlier years, then yes (though his points hauls weren't much better before 2001/02 season) the club has regressed. If you mean in a much grander scale of things, then no: please log in to view this image But again, it depends on your parameters and your understanding/willingness to take all the variables into account.
Yes, we have regressed over the past 10 years, there's no point in comparing it to way back before. That's like someone being poor, then getting super rich, then losing so much of his money and losing his rich status, nobody's going to say oh well it ain't so bad because he used to be poor, it's still a regression.
