I think this thread has lost its appeal

 

I've been too busy laughing at the 'Suarez leaving' thread with claims such as 'he's in the top five players in the world' and prices between 60 - 90 million being branded around.

He is a 30-35 million pound player at best

 

Might be your thinking with that sum but you know how important he is to us, we will play hard ball, what is the release clause, only a certain bracket of teams will come in for him and those teams all have $$

Torres wasn't worth 50 million, but to us he was and that is what we got.

 

Players values are dropping al the time now though Bluff.

Sneijder - 6-8 million
M'Villa - 8 million
David Villa - Rumoured to be 10 million.

The above 3 were 30+ players in the last 1-2 years !!

With the FFP rules and the economy seemingly starting to catch up with football now there is no way you would get that sort of money for him imo.

 

Seems it is more about timing. Also Villa is older, sneijder is older, hasn't played much, M'Vila also went off the boil for bit.

Suarez plays in one of the biggest leagues and is in form, still only 25-26 so you can see where the figures can still be close to what we think. We know Bayern have money, PSG, Real, I could see one of those.

 

I think Suarez comes with a fair amount a baggage too though Bluff......

The days of these massive deals with City, Chelsea etc are gone in my opinion.

 

I think this will be tested if Ronaldo, Cavani, Suarez, Falcao as examples all end up leaving for greener pastures. The Juve chief said the only teams to buy Cavani are the " Arabs and Russians"

Falcao is one that could be up there. Lucas Moura just moved for an insane amount to PSG ( when you include the wages), Hazard is another that recently went for a pretty high fee.

I agree that the Pastore ( 45 mil was it??), Carroll ( 35), Robinho (32), Berba ( 30?) are gone. I think the high high fees go to the tip top. You can also flip that in the days of the big big spending might be gone but the teams that do spend money move up. Look at us and Arsenal slipping and a team like Tottenham who have been spending over the years building a squad shows that money ultimately gets you where you want to be.

 

Some posters scoffed at the end of last season when I suggested that economic realities across Europe would have an effect upon transfer fees.

Sure there will be the odd dramatic transfer and Suarez could possibly be one of then. However, I agree the general trend is downward.

 

I don't see saurez being much more than 35-40.

 

Tbh, especially with us now spending only what we got, lets hope it is this way Dave!
