I'm getting worried that Coventry are hoping Cody will come back and refund his form and then try and ship him on for more money/use him again and were left in league 1 without our main striker! This is all on the basis that he comes back and starts banging them in again!

Just had a look and the guys scored 3 goals with only 4 starts and 5 sub appearances. So who knows maybe he hasn't lost it he just needs a chance to have a run in a team

Oh dear, I don't like this at all.

I may be alone here but I never rated McDonald. Yes he scored 26 goals for us but he must have had over 200 shots that season, I can remember thinking that for a striker he had awful finishing, which in my opinion is why he never cut the mustard above league 2 standard. Still I hope to be proven wrong on this one

Can't agree there, his finishing was first rate when I saw him, there is a Youtube video of all his goals for us, some peaches in there.

And as for taking 200 odd shots for 26 goals, I should think the mighty Van Persies and Rooneys of this world hit about the same averages.

In fact there are numbers to support it! As of 2012 Rooney had taken 1016 shots for Man U, scored 122

I still believe that Cody was lost without Bayo, although alwaysright provided stats a little while back to the contrary. I never forget that day Bayo had to limp out of game, I cannot remember who it was against but Cody was like a lost lamb.

He would certainly bring the fans into Priestfield and I would welcome him with open arms to compete with Birchall as goal scorer. However, much an air of caution until we see any such reward on the pitch. I cannot see us paying the full % of Cody's wages it would be complete madness for nothing more than an L2 stiker but whatever happens he will end up under more scrutiny than Keds through the euphoria his name brings around the Medway Towns.

I know he played great with Bayo however I think Kedwell or Burton can provide that service to him as they have the strength and hold up skills to set up him.

BRB there was the away game against Stockport when Bayo was either injured or suspended and Cody scored a hat-trick, he certainly did not look like a lost lamb that day:emoticon-0100-smile

That is some good stat hunting... although I have no evidence to back up my statement I just plucked 200 out of the air.

It is funny how people look at a player, I agree that Cody did score some good goals, it is not the quality I was criticising more the quantity, I always left matches feeling disappointing with him... Can't back it up really just a gut feeling

I read somewhere today, that its a loan with a view to permanent at the end of the season. Scally is too canny in his dealings to let Cov have him back and sell him on as Norwich did. I bet we have first refusal at a set price that we can take up or not depending how he does. My feeling is that if he scores in his first couple of games for us, he will really start knocking them in as he did last time. I read on another site where someone made the great comparison that when people say he didn't or couldn't do it elsewhere, look at Jackman and Essam. Both top players for us last season ,yet our manager obviously doesn't rate them so they don't play. That does not make them bad players, they are just out of favour, and that is what Cody is. I also can't help thinking that Bob Taylor was terrific with us, but went to Man City and quite frankly was rubbish. These so called bigger teams will not adapt their style to suit a player, the player has to adapt and sometimes they can't. At Gills we played to Bob Taylors strengths, as we did Cody. Those players feel wanted and perform better, and thats what I hope will happen with Cody.

Robert Taylor wasn't rubbish at Manchester City! Only played 12 games scoring 5 goals! Injured for half the season!

I too feel that Cody would play well alongside either Kedwell or Burton. No need for extra expense and the possibility of losing Jackman. How does the Essam to Crawley rumour fit in here? Probably purely for financial gain.....

looks like Cody is on loan, most likely for a month. If he does well he will be going back to Coventry. Cannot see Gillingham signing him permantely as wages to high.

I see it somewhere that us and Coventry have been talking on and off regards a deal for Cody Mcdonald since the 2nd January and i just don't see scally and co doing a deal over the last twenty days for only a one month loan to be achieved...no sorry i don't buy that !
scally would of been sorting out different factors regards the deal so that he got a better deal(best possible deal for Gillingham fc) until Coventry agreed and vice versa. like was stated this morning...it will be till the end of the season hopefully with a view to sign him permanently there after.

factors will be his goals, promotion, first option on him and obviously wages & value etc etc.

I understand that feeling. Each to their own when you look at a player. Always found Cody was a good scorer and was willing to work around the pitch. I actually though his work rate was superior to Jackson who seemed to wait for the ball.
