Yeah, I suppose it does seem like we're getting close to the main moves happening. Fingers crossed the club pull something out of the bag!
Depends on hoopers motives for his move, if he wants to take the next step in his career he will be best of here. If hes more interested in money then he can go elsewhere. I'm expecting the worst from this window where we really should be go all in to give us the best chance of staying up!
this is where his agent plays a role holty. re your stance expecting the worst, probably the best to avoid dissapointment and then if we do sign someone.... happy days
If my summing up is correct, there seems to be some doubt amongst fans about Hooper but a general acceptance of Graham. It isn't up to us of course, but there seems to be a feeling that we will end up paying too much for Hooper. Normally, any new signing would be greeted by real excitiement but there does seem to be a bit of an anti climax about it now. t feels like a game of brag where you have put so much money in the pot you have to keep going.
I kinda agree Redruth. But, I think everyone accepts that Graham or Hooper are going to be better than Morison, and therefore provide better cover, or viable competition for Holt. As the Graham thing has gone a little cold, it looks like Hooper is the more likely arrival. I think a lot of the uncertainty in whether we'll end up paying over the odds is that we don't actually know how much we have to spend. So many transfer fees are 'undisclosed' at the moment, all we really know is that no signings broke £3.5m. If we spend £8m on Hooper, is that the entire sum we had budgeted for this window? More? Less? Nobody knows. I think all we really want is whoever we sign to come at a fair price, which doesn't leave us short of money in the summer, when prices are more reasonable. Still, I think we're at the point right now that a season-ending injury to Holt would seriously blunt our attack, so we need someone in, and may have to pay over the odds for them.
From what I have read here and on the Pink'un Forum, people favour Graham more as he has played in the PL, where as it is sometimes hard to work out what level the SPL is at. Honestly I am happy with either as I think it shows we are at least trying to improve out strike force, but if I had to choose then I would probably go for Graham, no other reason than its what my gut tells me. I am kind of hoping that the Graham deal may be close to being done and we are waiting to unveil him and Camp at the same time.
Twitter reckons Spurs have confirmed a £10m Hooper bid. If he cares about money over game-time, that's our signing gone.
The more I read about how vital Hooper is to Celtic and now the fact that Spurs are reportedly interested in him, the more I am warming to the possibility of signing him! I know it is SPL but he has played Champs League, scored goals at Champ level for fun and is only 24. Sounds like a great prospect. My main issue with Hooper is whether or not he can play the lone role or will we change our philosophy with better players? i.e. play Hooper and Holt/Graham (depending on who we get, if we get them). Graham has done it at PL level and is on form! I would truely love it if we signed both! Would people accept Holt away to Celtic if it meant we got both Hooper AND Graham? Im not sure. It seems crazy with Holt having done all he has for us and with his Captaincy etc but the possibility of getting two players, at 24 and 27yrs old, who can both score goals, both bring more pace and both probably bring more technical ability. Its a toughy and im sure it wont happen but...thoughts?
Would the Holt offer be to potentially cover off any high money offers from other clubs? In this window, Celtic won't be worried by the money they make, it's whether they can get a replacement in or not. If you look at Tottenham's squad, they don't have any players they can offer to help with this, the wages would simply be too much for Celtic, unless it was a loan. Holt + Cash means Celtic wouldn't have to worry about getting a replacement short-term.
I'd hardly say Hooper "scored goals in the champ for fun", he only had one season there when he scored 19 goals which is a good return, though not anything remarkable if you ask me. Jordan Rhodes has scored almost that many already this season....
i will be so pleased if we do NOT get hooper for these crazy amounts of money being banded about, this all stinks of severe desperation to me and the only loser in this will be us. Has everybody forgot we still have exactly the same team who took us on a 10 game unbeaten run? yes we do need additions but not at the risk to the clubs future.... how about a reshuffle of the pack this can work just as well as additional players we have the skill and have proved that already. I personally still believe another player will be signed and none that are currently in the spotlight...
big gamble though bedford, do we need to take that risk? all smells very desperate to me, ide rather pay 6-7 for DG tried and tested and instant partnership with holt.
well, as we know, twitter is about as reliable as the postman, however for 10m celtic would accept that money. no way we could match that, and we shouldn't re reduths comment, i wouldn't mind either of them (hooper or graham). it appears that a number of clubs are fighting over a couple of strikers. lastly, i'm surprised spurs aren't aiming a little higher - they could do with a striker but to pick one without PL experience, i'm not sure. look at what happened to boyd.
Holt Stays: david mcnally ‏@davidmcnally62 In response to nos of earlier messages, none of our senior players are for sale & won't be included in any player swaps That would also imply we won't be seeing Moro or Jackson shipped out should we bring someone in.
