I don't understand how it isn't a penalty. Forgetting what angle the ref or the lino had, i'm talking about the beauty of replays and he 7 angles we've had. What I saw was Caulkers leg move out slightly to the right (not within caulkers natural run or body position) into the path of Rooney's run, after rooney had knocked the ball on. Please can someone explain how that's not a penalty. I am wondering if I understand the rules these days. Had the same issues over Handballs a few weeks ago!
Right,I've made a deadline for my confidence in AVB to be complete. If we don't lose in Ade's absence and win the majority of the matches then he's proved himself a competent manager to win without a main striker.
The last one was in the 3-3 draw with Arsenal on 20/04/11, apparently. We got 5 last season though, so they must all have been away from home. I think that Rooney just runs/dives into the back of Caulker's leg, to be honest. I think that the look on his face suggests that he doesn't think that he should've had one, either. Bloody good job I'm not a referee. I see it now and I'll take that as lesson in seeing what I want to see.
Nobody can call that incident clearly even with the benefit of countless replays from every angle. Some you get; some you don't. You will not have read any comment on here from me since the game complaining about Utd not being awarded a pen.
One thing you can say (just to start it all off again) is that despite Rooney hitting Caulker at full speed Caulker does not fall down.
He also has the only respectable looking boots in that clip (bar Foy's), despite the presence of about half a dozen other players.
Sorry to hear you wasted your money. btw, just to clarify, I wasn't being sarcastic in that Caulker is unlikely to fall in his own box...not so sure in the Utd. one though!
That was my point (although I missed yours) Look how he did not go down under such a challenge but how easy (not Caulker) they go down at the other end. Says it all really.
"If Caulker has not made contact with that ball then I must be blind." With this clip, looking at the direction Rooney is appealing towards, and considering in real time, I think I understand why the linesman didn't flag it. IMHO he didn't feel confident enough to call that Caulker didn't touch the ball.
The linesman may have been doing his job and keeping his focus on any offside that may have resulted from Rooney beating Caulker, and quite rightly letting the ref deal with anything else.
If the ref is not certain that it is a penalty he cannot give it. Many people including ex referees, managers, pundits and ex players have passed comment and there is no consensus. Even after 7 or 8 replays. Therefore no one can be 100% certain so the ref is right in not giving it.
