At the match (I sit at Vic Road end just behind the incident) I thought it may have been outside. I have just watched this clip http://www.skysports.com/video/inlin...417851,00.html
and if you pause this video at 49 secs you can see it was about a foot outside (can't tell if defender didn't get a bit of the ball or not as well?).

So we may have got a bit of luck there, but there have been plenty of times we haven't had that bit of luck. To be honest it was a reckless challenge for the defender to be making on the edge of his own area anyway and he ran the risk of it being seen as a penalty.

We looked a different team 2nd half to 1st on Saturday. To me it often looked in the first half that the player on the ball was not being given many options, which is unlike us this season. Chalobah seemed to have been singled out by Huddersfield for some 'rough treatment', and it seemed to upset our normal game.

2nd half was much better with options being given to the man of the ball more often, better movement, and we looked like we had stepped it up. Hopefully proving that targetting Chalobah does not stop us playing! The 4th goal was superb play, not just the number of passes, but the movement of the players as well.

I must add that I thought Forsyth slipped into the left wing back role seamlessly, despite his detractors, and the defence looked solid as well. During the run with Hall, Hoban and Ekstrand I thought Nosworthy would struggle to get back in when fit, but he has looked solid and calm over past three games. Nice to know we have that strength in depth in the squad now.

You are correct BHD, the line is 'in'. I would also agree that first contact was just outside, or at least Vydra was outside, but the defending player was 'on' the line, ergo the offence took place 'inside' the area, or at least so far as the referee is concerned. You'll note that the referee is not in the frame as the tackle is made (he must be at least 15-20 yards behind) so how credible is his decision? My gut reaction at the time was that it was outside the box from my lofty perch at the other end of the UR but he called it as he saw it. On balance I think he was right on this occasion, though I'd love to get my hands on his post match assessment!

I have watched the fourth goal quite a few times now, yet still think that the earliest video that was put on YouTube gave a far better view of the move than the official highlights taken from the east Stand side.

I think it shows up that what you see from one side of the ground, eg fouls, bad tackles, do look different from just where you are seated.

i think coz the first video just focussed on the whole move, start to finish, but yes, it was a much better angle :)

After consultation with the LotG and opinions from colleagues it would appear that the offence has indeed occured outside of the penalty area even though the challenge is (technically) made from within. Imagine if an attacker standing outside the area is kicked/punched/spat at, or attempted to, by a defender standing inside his own penalty area then the offence occurs where the it lands, not where it was launched from. Ergo the ref got it wrong! And so would I so I'm bloody pleased I double checked!!:emoticon-0145-shake:emoticon-0145-shake:emoticon-0145-shake Fortunately it's not a situation that comes up very often.

Cheers for that Fez, but i think that makes up for them having 11 men on the field and the possible handball on the line (the replays are unclear).
