Prince Harry credited his effectiveness as an Apache gunner to his skill at playing video games. "It's a joy for me because I'm one of those people who loves playing PlayStation and Xbox, so with my thumbs I like to think that I'm probably quite useful," he said By Rob Crilly, Zubair Babakarkhail in Kabul10:38AM GMT 22 Jan 2013 Taliban commanders have branded Prince Harry a naive “coward” for his comments comparing the decade-long conflict in Afghanistan with computer games. Two senior figures told The Daily Telegraph that the unguarded description was an insult to the men who had fought and died alongside Captain Wales. They were angered by the way Prince Harry described his role as co-pilot of an Apache helicopter, in charge of its weapons systems, firing Hellfire air-to-surface missiles, rockets and a 30-millimetre gun. “It’s a joy for me because I’m one of those people who loves playing PlayStation and Xbox, so with my thumbs I like to think I’m probably quite useful,” he said in an interview timed to coincide with his departure after a 20-week tour. The unguarded comments could prove a headache for President Hamid Karzai, who has staked his reputation on working closely with Nato-led forces and wants the US to station troops in Afghanistan beyond the end of 2014. It also hands insurgents a propaganda opportunity as they continue to try to turn the local population against foreign fighters in a war that is becoming as much about PR salvoes as it is about rockets and bullets. HRH Prince Harry or just plain Captain Wales as he is known in the British Army, wears his monocle gun sight as he sits in the front seat of his cockpit while serving as an Apache Helicopter Pilot/Gunner with 662 Sqd Army Air Corps Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesman, said Prince Harry was a “coward” for speaking only after he was out of harm’s way. “This statement is not even worth condemning. It is worse than that,” he said by telephone from an undisclosed location. “To describe the war in Afghanistan as a game demeans anyone – especially a prince, who is supposed to be made of better things.” He added that it exposed the calibre of forces that Nato was able deploy. “It shows the lack of understanding, of knowledge,” he said. “It shows they are unfamiliar with the situation and shows why they are losing.” A commander in Helmand, where Prince Harry was based, said soldiers from dozens of countries were fighting in Afghanistan. To describe their efforts – and deaths – as part of a game was to show a lack of respect, he said. “It’s not a game. It’s very, very real,” he said.
harry is the only decent one in that family at least he doesnt let the royalty thing stop him bein normal prince philips a legend too
I can just imagine him hanging out of the helicopter like the nutter in Full Metal Jacket, shooting Taliban shouting "Yeah! Get some!" "Anyone who runs is a Taliban, anyone who stands still is a well disciplined Taliban!"
I thought this would be about Venom. Watched the interview with him and he actually seems pretty normal and grounded. As for the Taliban, they're just raging because they don't have PS3s or X-Boxs. please log in to view this image Taliban training Are they only murderous when they are British. I have come to the conclusion that it is the greatest film ever made. How Lee Ermey never got an Oscar is beyond me. "If I'm gonna get my balls blown off for a word, my word is..... poontang."
Very surprised Buck house didn't put out a dictat saying he couldn't be intervewed about this. How many other Army captains come back telling tales of killing and all the rest of it? It's absolutely ridiculous.
Wasn't it all filmed in and around London with hundreds of tropical plants shipped over here to make it look like Vietnam. Telling tales of killing? What did he say again? What do you expect him to say, he flew a helicopter in Afghan and killed no one.
Ok -telling tales wasn't te best way of putting it but he was talking about killing people. Most people i know who have been over wouldn't dream of telling people about it but, on the flip side, people wouldn't ask. As I said - I can't believe they allowed him to be interviewed about it because they must have known they weren't going to like the answers. They don't interview anyone else about it do they? Oh and apologies for the appalling over use of the word "people" in one sentence
