I'd like to see Colo stay but we should have our eyes open for a possible replacement in case he does go.

Fabricio Coloccini's father expects a decision to be made over the Newcastle defender's future on Tuesday
    http://www1.skysports.com/football/...er-the-Newcastle-defender-s-future-on-Tuesday.
Newcastle United defender Fabricio Coloccini's father has revealed he expects a decision to be made over his son's future on Tuesday.

Coloccini has told the club that he would like to leave St James' Park during the current transfer window to return to his native Argentinadue to personal reasons.

United boss Alan Pardew has said he is still hopeful of persuading the 30-year-old to stay on Tyneside but Osvaldo Coloccini, who is a director of youth football at San Lorenzo, has told a local radio station that his son is still keen to seal a move to the Argentinian side.

"There was an inconclusive meeting today," Coloccini Snr told Rock and Closs on Monday. "Tomorrow there will be a decision. We both desire the transfer.

"Fabricio is very anxious. He wants a decision to be made one way or another. I believe this is the moment to move.

"Newcastle have asked him to wait until May. The issue is if San Lorenzo will wait until that date.

"It would be beautiful if both of us were at San Lorenzo, the club we love. Fabricio is eager to return but he wants to do so in an elegant way."

"We both desire the transfer"? Sorry Osvaldo, I could care less what you desire!

Why is this man doing all the talking? Has Colo got a tongue in his head? Haven't heard anything from him -- but tons from dad and the wee club in the south-west (San Lorenzo).

Colo is a big boy -- turning 31 today. (Happy birthday Colo -- hope the next one is better than this one!) Is he old enough to do his own talking and make his own decisions?

    Give it a rest, Osvaldo.

Incidentally, I hope "He wants a decision to be made one way or another" means he just wants things settled and doesn't mind that much which way it goes. Could he possibly still want to stay with Newcastle? Maybe he's secretly hoping we won't let him go and he'll have to say to his wife: "Sorry, sweetums, I tried my best but just couldn't swing it. I'll have to stay here. Oh dear....."

Talks between United and Fabricio Coloccini over the future of the unhappy club captain went ahead as scheduled on Monday, but no official comment was forthcoming from the club after their conclusion.

That may be as a consequence of the fact that both sides had legal representation present at the three hour meeting, with further talks scheduled today (Colo's 31st birthday).

Coloccini's father then commented that the talks had been inconclusive and that a stalemate had come with United looking for the player to remain at SJP for the remainder of the season, while he wants away now.

If inconclusive then chances are the club have blocked a "let me walk by mutual agreement" request. Could get tricky if it turns into a legal battle over contractual rights and £££.

    That's what contracts are for.

    A payback clause?

Slightly OT - whatever happened to Romain Amalfitano? He's 23, so not exactly a young gun, yet we haven't seen him for weeks?

Do you think he's a player who will soon be ushered out of the door without a fuss, ala the soon-to-be-departed Dan Gosling? (there's another waste..)

Yeah, even with a painfully depleted squad he's barely made the subs bench. But worrying. Same with Abeid, although he is younger so probably regarded as one for the future. But even still, plenty of top players have already made it by that age. As for Gosling, waste of space.

In my view, if San Lorenzo aren't prepared to meet us halfway and get a top defender for nowt in May – they are having a laugh.

I'll be amazed if we're agreeing to this never mind anything else. But Colo has to see some sense here and realise he owes the club at least stopping on until summer and helping us out of the present mess.

He MUST still have enough residual love for this club to not want to leave at a time like this, not only is it wholly unprofessional after recently signing a new 4-year deal but it just feels wrong on every level.

This is the club captain, the best footballer at the club. We need him now more than ever and remember this is a guy that invested so much effort in getting the club back to the Premier League.

To run out at a time where we could well slump back if he departs midway through a season is just not on.

Colo could buy himself out of his contract, but he almost certainly couldn't afford it.

He has still said nothing. He has still not put in a transfer request. The things his father is saying are getting increasingly silly.

I have no doubt Colo would like to leave. I don't think it will happen.

Not really, he'll be expecting to take the money and run. He wouldn't like being hit in the pocket where it all counts most for him.

See if he still wants his boy to up sticks and run if it's going to cost him almost £7m.

Colo Snr has put added pressure on his son,Colo is not the type of player that courts publicity, his father's remarks have put him very much in the public eye, and caused a lot of uneccessary speculation.

Colo Senior (aka Senor Colo) is clearly a dick.

I wonder how father son relations are at the moment

I've got to add that I think it would be oddly big of us to even sign him off for a few weeks to jet home and sort out these 'personal problems' and then return.

Even if riding high at the business end of the league that would be pretty bizarre for any paying club to sanction.

Might be the most he can hope for.

I mean how much would Colo cost to sign? When rumours were rife Man City were interested last year figures north of £10m were quoted, even then it was a hard sell for NUFC.

At that rate, buying out his contract would still leave us out of pocket. San Lorenzo need to GET REAL – these South American clubs exists in their own twisted reality. Mad.
