Obviously I'm missing something because i thought our midfield prior to that was ****ing ****, but reading the comments on here they must have really been excellent.

I think people are getting the wrong end of the stick with some of the comments, Tooting. I'd say everyone agrees that Dezza has done great and will be a big part of our squad for the run in, but he's so fu*king old! Surely we should be thinking to the future this summer?

I love the bloke but he's one step away from a zimmer frame

Don't be an ageist Swords. He can continue to do a job for us. The guy is a genuine professional guaranteed to give his all. Fitness isn't an issue.

Split decision for me I'm afraid, whilst its obvious he loves playing for us and always gives his all; he does get found out and caught out quite often now against better opposition.

He'd be great to keep around the club and i really appreciate what he has done, but i think he should probably be back up at best for a younger, fitter DCM. Maybe even a mentors role, but defo not a regular starter.

i understand he has bags of experience and maybe he can pass that on to his succesor.

Get him doing his coaching badges at the same time.

Brix was posting not so long ago that there's merit to bringing through managers and I would say that Derry has some potential in this regard.

My comments about Mackie also apply - the shirt is his until the "superior" players can show the form to justify dropping one of our consistent triers.

He's not exactly a shoddy footballer either...

Thanks mentioning that point Matty. Wouldn't it be great to have apprentice gaffers in waiting...

Have say though, if I'm a fan of anyone it'd be Shaun Derry. Massive regard for that guy. A real R. You can see it in everything he does. He'll be there to plug the gap anytime he's needed. Bet Giggsy wishes he was Shaun's age! Should've been made skipper from the outset. Warnock already knew him too. What WAS he thinking?

Worth mentioning that for me anyway, our Champ players represent the heart and soul of the real Rangers, on and off the pitch. If all our players were like them guys in character, dunno where we'd be now but the club would have a lot more respect than it does atm. They might not have started here but their whole manner says this is where they belong. Doesn't matter whether they're starting or not, we need their influence behind the scenes if not on the pitch as well.

What that contract tells me is that the club recognise Derry's worth as a bit of backbone come what may. Solid move imo!

He seems to be a fine bloke and gives everything on the pitch but I don´t believe that he is the right player we do need right now nor for the future. Of course he is always after the ball but unable to pass the ball, technically very limited and unable to open the game. We do need players like Granero mixed with the likes of a Joey Barton (do not want him back of course, but liked his qualities). Last game showed that we lack that sort of skills and Derry provides nothing like that.

I think our fan base gets very flaky but it's understandable as no one connected with this club thinks about parking the bus

The ball goes wide to Dave Thomas
    You all know the buzz
    Tight ground pumping atmosphere
    Flash of skill

However at the moment it's come apparent to me it's exactly what we need to do and I missed that and took us for granted thinking incorrectly that our all time best squad would work

    Not without foundation it won't

    Hill Derry Faurlin Mackie Taarabt

Our core and something I was on about when we were in the championship and losing Kasper sort of speaks to me now more than anything
