Anyone see that bit on SSN about the Everton fan who allegedly racially abused Park Ji-Sung and Anichebe in front of his own young children? Sky interviewed him and, while protesting his innocence, he used the word "coloured" three times, including the sentence "my son has a coloured friend". Silly man.

To be honest, Joe, if he's for real he's just out of touch with his terminology. 40 years ago you couldn't say black, as that was definitely not in vogue. You would have been vilified for it. Coloured was the word that was in use. About 15 years ago I used the word coloured in conversation and was laughed out of the room. I didn't mean anything by it at all, but I'd not been aware of what was and what was not acceptable in conversation, at the time. I didn't mind. I've always found racial stigma bloody ridiculous. To me, everyone is the same, but I have to keep myself aware that for society it still isn't quite so.

Did he seem as if he was just out of touch or more obviously so..?

It's possible he's just out of touch with the terminology, but the whole "I can't be racist because I have black friends" defence just makes a person seem more guilty. It's not just the fact that he used the word "coloured", which my grandmother (who I'm pretty sure isn't racist) naively uses every so often, but it's more that he seems to protest a little too much.

In our politically correct world you maybe but I will not tell anyone.

BTW, I am in New York and it is 8:35PM do you people have jobs to go to in the morning?

Nope, I'm in Uni. Only got in from the game 20 minutes ago as well haha. Lucky you being in New York...

Stuart Hall has been charged with rape and 14 counts of indecent assault. I found him hilarious when he was reporting on games for 5 live.
