I was concerned about Cortese tonight, he is sat alone in the stand, why? Has he some sort of disorder that is making him so reclusive, no message in the programme either, why is he shirking from communicating with us, I don't understand it, should we be worrying just a little and not be so judgemental, or am I being too much of a softie and misunderstanding the guy?

Guillem Balague on Southampton 0-0 Everton:

"Fans chanted twice in the game the name of Nigel Adkins. Logical reaction. Few fans approached me saying they are not like other clubs, they will back the new manager but wanted to show their upset for seeing the old one go. Fair enough. In their chanting, there was not the impression that they wanted to make a big point to the club, that they were intending to start a struggle for power and influence, that they wanted to disrupt the team. Other fans seem to think that is their role in the club, but not in Southampton.

And then they were entertained to a 0-0 draw that could have been 4-4! Good game with a very good 45 minutes from the home side and a second half where Everton could have won the game.

What is new? The defensive line is high and the pressure when Southampton lose the ball is constant but that only lasted around 50 minutes, when the team couldn't continue doing the same physical effort.

The local players were so upset by not taking advantage of the chances in the first half that one of the English ones even apologise to the new staff!

Nothing to feel sorry for, it is a good start and now they should show they are not scared of Manchester United."

Balague is worth a follow on Twitter if you aren't already, he's a personal friend of Pochettino's and was in attendance tonight.

I've seen him on various occasions sat on his own up there. Wasn't a one off. I just don't think he has any friends.

Solent said that at one point Hooiveld pulled a groin muscle, but refused treatment and wouldn't go off, he is a pretty tough son of a bitch, I like him lots. As always the first to applaud the crowd, he looked a bit clunky at times, but I am glad to see that he has got over the early season episodes.

Well chuffed with Saints tonight, good draw against a top side which we could have won with some great chances created.
Thought crowd reaction was just about right - quietly polite towards new man, no animosity towards the chairman and some appreciation for Nigel Adkins' great work for the Saints.

He was sat with Reed and another old guy I didn't recognise.

I only saw a short piece of footage on Sky and there was no one near him then, just looked like he had swallowed a wasp.

At the end he stood up, looked satisfied, and they were next to him. Might have been an empty seat between them.

Yeah there was, he leaned across to talk to someone on the other side of Reed at FT.

Also, it looked like he looked down at Mauricio and exchanged a smile.

That's your interpretation, SD13. As someone else said, he leaned over to exchange pleasantries with another person [not Bill Kenwright, IMO], after smiling at the coaching staff below him [presumably Pochettino]. Les Reed was next to Cortese. It was a relatively incomplete directors box though.

That's sad, perhaps a few hugs could lighten him up, he remains an enigma and I refuse to see any reason to bully him if I don't understand him, I am a big softie, I admit it, I look for the best in people not the worst.

Anyway he is still the reason I was able to sit and freeze my cobs off watching the team that I love and support, that hasn't changed through all of the bother.
