A bit like he is doing on that very thread now <laugh>

You've hit the nail on the head though. That is exactly what he does.

At first I found him one of the most frustrating posters. He always seemed to be a well qualified bloke who could make intelligent and rational arguments, but as soon as he was challenged on them he degenerated into random nonsensical bitterness. It was like having a chat with Einstein only for him to have a stroke halfway through.

Then I realised that he only tries to use rational arguments to hide his immense bitterness at the fact that, no matter how hard he tries to convince everyone, we just haven't gone into decline yet <ok>

Tell me about it. Christ I had some ding dongs, if I didn't accept what he was saying he juts used to say 'you don't understand, you're not intelligent enough' or words to that effect.

Which infuriated me, as you're no doubt aware!!

Ended up us meeting for a few pints and football was hardly discussed, very amiable bloke and we got along great.

This website does strange things to people.

I'm thinking we need more threads with people's names as the title.

There's something about supporting Liverpool that turns otherwise normal people into complete ****ing loons. My old boss was a Liverpool fan. Very smart guy, made it to a very senior level in his profession, absolutely charming...get him on the subject of Liverpool and he would rant and rave, talking utter ****e about conspiracies, making illogical assessments about players etc. Before the 2006 World Cup he was absolutely insistent that Carragher should play for England ahead of Rio Ferdinand. Then again, he also thought Marlon Harewood should start up front so maybe he was just thick when it came to football.

Was at a party on Saturday and got talking to a guy who I've met a couple of times before, our kids are at the same school. He's another one who's very smart, good job in finance, very mild mannered, almost whispers when he's talking. I knew he was a Liverpool fan and we got onto the subject of football....he started prattling on about Fergie and how we were about to go into a 20 year decline before lecturing me on how being a Liverpool fan was spiritual, like being part of a family.

    Just.

    ****.

    Off.

They're like the irish - everyone loves them but at the same time they've been absolutely ridden rougshod by the authorities. Have to love the persecution complex - the 2 of them would be fighting it out for the world title.

I think football does strange things to people. Particularly some of the older Liverpool fans - their previous success seems to leave them incapable of discussing football without bitterness. Tho' much of it is probably that distorted "we had 20 years of success now you've had 20 years of success so your time is over" view, as if Liverpool's failings are doomed to be repeated by every other club to ever achieve anything.

I wonder, if we actually did go into a decline and went two decades without a league title, would we be the same?

    <laugh>

His most recent one is a classic. "Who are you to give orders? Sod off dickhead!" I really hope he sees the irony in that...

Yeah, when I said that I was referring to me also, if it weren't obvious enough!

When I first clashed with him I thought he was some eedjit wind up merchant with some misplaced superiority complex, he just said the same old stuff in the most condescending manner. It was only when I found out he was an older bloke that I thought I shouldn't be calling him a **** and such like so offered the olive branch. I'd never speak to a man of his age like that, never, and I don't buy into the idea that because this is the internet we say and do things we wouldn't dare say face to face to someone. Which is the clear policy of most bellends on here.

I swear I sat in the pub with Dave for a few hours having beers and wouldn't have said a wosre word than ****.

He, on the other hand, used **** and **** with absolute impunity!!

It's the Wednesday, I'll angle it to stay up there that night for definite.

I start the job that week so it works out well, will stay up there the Monday and Wednesday nights I would think.

NOF, I was working down Dave's way so we met for a beer. It was good to do it actually, dispell any idea I was some bloody ogre. I was genuinely freaked out by what I'd said to an older geezer and wanted to buy him a pint!!
