Every German I know has a massive sense of national self loathing over World War II. In fact nationalism itself is very much a dirty word in the modern German psyche. This is at a time when far right nationalism is gaining more support in almost every other EU country, including the UK. There are only so many times you can beat a dead horse and trying to hold Germany to account over the actions of a practically dead generation is pointless. I could go into the actions of the British, or the French, or the United States of America in the past half century alone and easily come up with a more sickening list of atrocities than what has been noted above.

I'm not holding the nation to account or accusing all germans - I asked if there are people / organisations with influence in Germany protecting these people? I dont know modern Germany, just wondering if anyone did and could enlighten me, rather than just do the old , 'well whatever it was, Briatin did it ten times worse' bit. I'm also fully aware that, as you say, Britain the US and other countries have records as long as your arm. I think its a great shame that people don't think this matters now, that they're old men and what's the point? etc. People like that had no compunction at the time about killing babes in arms up to the old and infirm, so they shouldn't be expempted because of their age or health.

Beats me why everyone doesn't just **** off to Ireland. They're absolute saints and run their country magnificintly.
