QPR midfielder Shaun Derry signs a one-year contract extension which will see him stay with the club until the summer of 2014.

makes me think that we might not get to sign anyone in midfield

A real Ranger, one of best tempered and true leader on the pitch:

"Now I’m back in the side and I'm appreciated by the fans as much as I have been since I arrived here and that means so much - it feels like home here.

"I've come to the club at the latter stages of my career but without question, I've enjoyed the happiest time of my career at QPR.”

The best in his position atm. IF we get another holding midfielder, we'll need cover for him and that will be Derry. Faurlin has been poor and Diakite and Mbia can't play the holding role very well imo.

Glad for him. Still can be effective in a 5 man midfield.

Our defence has been much improved recently...Even Hansen was harping on about it last night on MOTD 2....
Derry and Hill have contributed to this...

There can be only 2 reasons for them to offer him a 1 year extention:- to provide assistance in a coaching capacity or they think we're going down and he'll be a good championship player still......

Good move to keep Derry as it's a position that can't be taught overnight and simply put he is the best we have got currently. He is fit no doubt about that and that role is one that you can go on fora few more years in. I am hoping however that at home we may be able to play with a different formation as its easy we need to get 3 points at home regardless of the scoreline. Attack and score and then protect if need be and the opposite away from LR

Regardless of his performances on the pitch (which I think have been very good) Derry is exactly the type of person you'd want around the club whether he's starting or sitting on the bench.

    Good move in my opinion.

Spot on. Hopefully he'll hang around if he wants to get his coaching badges, too.

He's alright. He's almost like an extra CB, sitting in front of the other 2 back there. He'll be alright. He brings a good attitude. Give him a nice retirement here with us.

Totally agree, he's been a favourite of mine. Wasn't initially delighted when he signed but soon changed my opinion.

Such an under rated player by many. Some just over look the simple things that he does so well. He uses his football brain to position himself well to avoid the need to match players for pace.

It is no coincidence that our form has improved since he has played at the heart of our team.

You always need players like him, mackie, hill etc.. who are the soul of the club, whether they are regulars or not.

Well deserved. OK he may not be a top quality player in the prem and can have the odd ineffective game but he gives everything for the shirt and i still consider him a solid no nonsense player that brings lots of valuable experience. Should we go down we will see the Shaun Derrys around our club
