Leeds United host Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road on Sunday 27th January 2013 (KO 14:00) in the 4th round of the 2012-13 FA Cup.

Leeds drew at home to Birmingham City in the 3rd Round with Luciano Becchio scoring a 60th minute equaliser to force a replay at St Andrew's.
Birmingham took the lead again only for Leeds to progress through to the 4th Round with goals from Ross McCormack and El-Hadji Diouf.

Tottenham won their home 3rd Round tie against Coventry City 3-0 with a brace from Clint Dempsey and a Gareth Bale goal.

This will be the 97th time the two teams have met and the first time since February 2010.

Leeds United were founded in 1919 after the demise of Leeds City, who were evicted from the Football League due to financial irregulatities (Port Vale took their place). United were elected to the Football League Second Division for the 1920-21 season and won promotion to the First Division in 1924.

The first meeting with Spurs came in October 1924 with Leeds winning 1-0 at Elland Road (which used to be known as the Peacock Ground - hence Leeds nickname) and Tottenham winning their home match at White Hart Lane 2-1 with Jimmy Seed scoring Spurs first goal against Leeds.

The clubs met for two more seasons in the First Division until Leeds were relegated at the end of the 1926-27 season.

Both clubs were in the Second Division for the 1931-32 season and Spurs took three points out of four off Leeds.

The clubs met again in the First Division from 1933 to 1935 with a win apiece and two draws.

The first League meeting after WW2 came in the Second Division in November 1947 with Spurs winning 3-1, a score they repeated at Elland Road in April 1948. The next season's matches were both drawn and the following season Spurs regained their Top Flight status beating Leeds 2-0 at the Lane but losing the reverse fixture 0-3.

The first of nine FA Cup meetings between the two clubs came in the 3rd Round in 1954 with Spurs drawing 3-3 at Elland Road and winning the replay 1-0 at White Hart Lane.

Leeds United were back in the First Division for the 1956-57 season and remained in the Top Flight for four seasons before being relegated in 1959-60.

The Yorkshire club returned to the Top Flight for the 1964-65 season under Don Revie and it was during this period that Leeds enjoyed the most successful spell in their history, maintaining their Top Flight status for 18 consecutive seasons until 1981-82 and winning two League Championships.
The Leeds home match against Spurs in August 1971 was played at Boothferry Park, Hull as Elland Road was closed due to crowd trouble.

Leeds were back in the First Division for the 1990-91 season and had another good run of 14 consecutive seasons in the Top Flight, including winning the last old Division One Title in 1991-92 before the competition was re-organised as the Premier League.

After Leeds were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2003-04 season, the only matches against Spurs came in the 2009-10 FA Cup, where the clubs drew 2-2 at White Hart Lane in the 3rd Round. Peter Crouch put Spurs ahead just before half-time but Jermaine Beckford levelled things up in the 52nd minute. Roman Pavlyuchenko looked like securing Tottenham's passage to the 4th Round after 75 minutes, but a Leeds penalty converted by Beckford deep into injury time enforced the replay.

The replay at Elland Road was won by Spurs 3-1 with a hat-trick from Jermain Defoe. Leeds goal was scored by Luciano Becchio.

The clubs have never met in the Football League Cup.

Overall, Leeds have won 31, Spurs have won 36 and 29 of the 96 matches between the two clubs have been drawn.

In recent years they played for Leeds and Spurs has ben all one way traffic though. Time Spurs loaned us something in return. Would happily take Defoe off your hands till end of season. Townsend doesn't count as he was ****e. We might give Lennon a bit of proper match practice instead of that namby pamby premiership rubbish, if you like

Isn't David Kerslake in serious trouble with the law? I think he hit and run a few people and one of them died.

Willem Korsten scored two goals against Man Utd for Spurs, the last time they beat Man Utd at home. He then retired immediately from all professional football due to a constant hip injury.

Also, didn't we have a left back from Spurs on loan last season, I think he played a few games, one of them was against Brighton at ER.

Probably Andros Townsend, who played 6 games for Leeds, scoring once.

He's a left-sided player who is usually used as a winger, although he can also play at full-back.

The Spuds play some lovely stuff and should have beaten the scum yesterday. It'll be nice to finally see some proper football at ER this season.

So what Leicester and Middlesbrough and Hull played wasn't "proper football"?

I’m not looking forward to this game. Have a feeling we will get ripped apart, chewed and spit out again just to get stamp on :(
The positive about this game is that there will be a very short cup-run for Leeds<ok>

It wouldn't surprise me at all if this game went to a replay.

Interesting we've never ever met in the league cup. You've easily got the upper hand on us in the FA cup though.

    We'll end that on Sunday.......
