Load of cack You get early business done when you have the £ to buy, someone who wants to come, and no one else can match your package or the pull (e.g. location preference). Pearson is not some wizard, he just had a player we couldn't compete for. Bruce isn't a slow coach half wit, with a crap team. He just didn't have a target who wanted to come. He hasn't got a master plan he has been hiding for a while to mature it. Talk sense - we are after what we can get, and not all of what we want to get is bothered about coming. We bagged Meyler and Brady without anyone else sniffing (although the loan issue does factor). Sorry, but your premise is unsound and your point invalid. Supply, demand, and hundreds of other variables from family, cash, and friends all play a part.
Bruce said that he had talked to F. Campbell 6 weeks ago and he got the impression that the deal was a non starter. doesn't that suggest he was trying to do the prelimary work. He got meyler and brady wrapped up relatively quickly and no one was really expecting stockdale and elmo to be called back so quickly nor aluko getting injured. before all that occurred we were in a good way and he could afford to wait. Have faith he's playing catch up now but so far hes been pretty spot on with his business.
Of course I don't know and neither do you. Very few if any on here know anything about what actually goes on at City, but that doesn't stop us talking about it. That's one of the reasons we post on a messageboard. For the record I hope your right and some big deal is in the pipeline that will solve our striker problems, but we won't know that until the window closes and if on the other hand we only end up with a last minute desperation signing or nothing the fans will have the right to ask why?
Some more players will become available but has SB has said most clubs want replacements in before they will let players go. I do agree on the other hand though the quicker you get a player in then your team is improved earlier for the rest of the season
Yeah but I dont expect us to get any answers. If we do end up with a "last minute desperation signing" you cant just assume its down to Bruce not doing his work early enough it could be down to so many reasons and thats the very last one I would have thought of
Fair enough, but if you read my OP you'll see I wasn't blaming Bruce. I just suspect the club aren't as quick off the blocks as they could be and that probably comes down to whoever is responsible for making contact with SB's targets / parent clubs.
Excuse me, but would you, kindly, please go away and bother people on your own board? I'm incredibly bored of you.
Adam Pearson was responsible for transfer dealings but would he sanction the calibre of player we require?
The thing with transfers in January clubs are unlikely to let players let players leave without signing a replacement. If you look, especially later on in the transfer window you'll see a pattern. Club A signs a player from Club B, Clue B will sign a play from Club C. Its a domino effect.
No I'm sure he wouldn't, but whoever is doing his job now (possibly Ehab) should know Assam's budget.
I agree there are to many assumptions, but, securing loans aside, we have known that we need a striker, so the point about being, games (and points lost) behind other challengers is a fair one.
This. With QPR they've only had Cisse, Zamora, and Johnson in the 25. DJ and Bothroyd were definitely loaned out, and Hulse might have been as well but he's so far off being viable for them it doesn't matter. With Johnson doing his finest Richie Appleby impression, and Zamora also injured coming into January they've had Cisse, DJ, and Bothroyd who Harry has been looking at and evaluating. Even with Zamora due back from injury at the end of the month they've always needed 1 in (Remy) before they could let DJ go. With Cisse also leaving on loan they probably want another, or to hang on to DJ until the end of the window to make sure Zamora is going to be back fit and well.
So far we have signed 2 players on perm and 1 on loan - which is more than any of our rivals (yes that does leave the door open to an argument about who had the better squads before the window opened), and there is still one week to go - ample time to sign Gedo, plus any other players Bruce and Papa might like to pull out of the hat. But as has been already mentioned once one large PL signs the player they are after that leads to the trickle down effect and player B becomes available to go to club B (lower PL for example) meaning player C doesn't get the playing time he wants and asks for transfer to club C - (Higher Championship side - for example Hull).
These long drawn-out transfer sagas like we're currently having with DJ always make me nervous. From experience the ones who are eager to come sign up quickly (eg Meyler and Brady) while those who aren't so sure take longer. It seems to offer an invitation for rival clubs to step in and sometimes you wonder whether that is what the player / his agent or the parent club want.
Paper said this morning we're the front runner for Campbell based on Palace not being able to afford better wages. Said something like £23K a week. Alot for this division that.
Assuming it's a loan, it's less than £500k until the end of the season, in the grand scheme of things that's a fairly good punt.
Interesting that HDM are suggesting that if the Zaha deal goes through CP will come back in strongly for DJ Campbell. http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-17947104-detail/story.html Someone at City needs to be decisive and get the deal through before we're gazumped.
