I like the way AVB thinks that we can win every match. He knows that some of the other teams have better players but nevertheless remains positive. That is the way to build a winning mentality.

It means that you were good enough to take 4 points off the champions. Do I detect a note of sour grapes here Safc83? it's not fun being scored against in injury time is it(tell us about it) but you just have to take it. Both sides could have won that yesterday so stop being such a sore griper. We are good enough to take four points off of you which bodes well for our future. Not many teams come back against you. We'll do you a favour by beating City, you'll love us then won't you?

  7. Considering the absence of some notable resources yesterday, I thought AVB approached the game positively and we never once looked like we would just capitulate - as has regularly happened in the past. The team took that positivity out onto the pitch and I always thought we would get something from the game. On balance, we probably deserved all three points.
Were Utd not at it yesterday? No, I don't think so, although they took a pretty defensive approach to the game, which was a surprise.
All in all, I reckon that was a tactical victory for AVB and the whingeing from Baconface afterwards just supports that theory.

Good points Relayer although I'm a bit concerned as to why Bale went missing. He does this from time to time but I wish it hadn't been yesterday.

I still am not yet totally confident in AVB but I am getting there. When we go ahead I don't punch the air as I used to,I look stone faced wondering whether we'll give away late goals as before. I'm still cautious.

once again he's complaining about the officials, in particular the linesman. did he really have a shocking day? perhaps over the penalty decision, but that was about it. But Foy's performance was far worse.

it's Karma Fergie and sometimes things don't go your way. I wonder if he remembers a player called Pedro Mendes?

  11. Personally wouldn't be too hard on Bale yesterday. By no means his best game, but as expected they were doubling up on him all the time. Mind you, I think that obsession actually assisted Azza, who found plenty of space and made great use of it. It was interesting that I cannot remember one time when the two switched wings yesterday.....

Bacon Face was scared of us yesterday, it bodes well for the future. He set up Manure like Stoke, QPR or Wigan, defending deep in order to nullify Bale. People claim that Bale went missing but if Man United's attacking potential has to go missing in order to deal with Bale, then it's not a bad trade-off. We should have won, missed chances and great defending cost us. On another day we could have won by 3 or 4 goals. 2 points lost methinks but the United hoodo is well and truly broken.

I said at the beginning of the season we need to give AVB three years and I haven't changed my view on that. It will take AVB a while to build and shape his own team. AVB is learning though and to his credit he does what Redknapp couldn't, manage a squad. You listen to Michael Dawson who said that at the beginning of the season AVB told him that he was the 5th choice centre back. Dawson chose to stay and fight for his place which AVB accepted. He did not exclude him in a Redknappesque non-favourite manner. He encouraged Dawson to fight for his place.

That's the point for me deedub93. When was the last time United came to the Lane in a defensive mode hoping to snatch something on the break. Yesterday saw Spurs move to another level.

The real story of the game is how we dominated them, not a weak protest about a possible penalty they should have had. A 'penalty' which if you look at a again, clearly shows that Foy was spot on with his decision.

I thought it was short for Sir Alec Ferguson or whatever as he posted after the Man U match. Oh well my mistake. But still what the effs he on about. So it's Sunderland is it? Nothing to say,not worth it.

SAF paid Spurs respect in picking 3 in midfield to match your 3 there and looking to contain first, but with an eye to counterattacking quickly. Any good manager should look to tailor their tactics to nullify the threat of the opposition, especially away from home. And it nearly worked- as the tactics at Chelsea and City had done previously. A 1-0 win would have been ample justification. And you can't ignore the conditions either. It wasn't a day for expansive play.
