We're talking about contract "negotiations". Two clubs talk. There are agents invovled, trying to do best for, firstly themselves and secondly themselves.

Then maybe the player has some input. It's difficult, unless the player in question is being courted by Man City,Chelsea ect.

To cut a long story short, sometimes we have to make do with the best we can.We negotiate the best deal we can. That's life unfortunately.

If we sign people who are not cut out for the PL we can always loan them out or sell them.

Easier said than done. Remember the last time we came down, Oli & Macca are still on big wages if the rumours are to be believed, but hopefully any contracts done now will have clauses in them.

True but lets say we signed someone now on 15,000 with a clause that gave them 25,000 if we went up. If we loaned them out after we went up and had the other team pay 15,000 surely the 10,000 loss would be negated by the extra PL money? I do agree that it is easier said then done but in general as long as we dont make stupid contracts like last time I think it isnt something we should worry to much about. After all anyone who is good enough to help us get to the PL will be desired by someone out there even if we have to take a loss on them.

If you do it properly then it works fantastically. Billy Sharp is a great example of this, Saints bought him in January knowing that he couldn't make the step up to the Prem but he scored them the goals which ensured that they got over the line. Loaned him back to the Champ once they were up to Forest who would have paid his wages in full. Now at the end of the season if they stay up they can sell him and at least recoup the money they paid for him. But if they're relegated then they already have a striker who will score 15+ goals and help get them back up. It's genius!

A valid point save for a small loophole - how the **** do you know in advance who is going to be 'good enough for the Premier League'? The only proof is in the pudding. For example, nobody - and I mean NOBODY - wouldve thought Grant Holt would be good enough for the Premier League. He was **** in every division he's ever played. Or nearer to home what about Ash? He ceretainly held his own and we had fans saying he wouldnt make the step up from the bottom division.

That's EXACTLY why SB bought Prozza, 'cos he knew he'd be ****e in the Chump but would be a revelation in the PL next season, fcuking genius!

It wouldn't be allowed. The only reason the loan deal can be cancelled for a sale is that if they couldn't be recalled then the sale couldn't go through. In the situation with Sharp the sale can't go through because of other reasons, so the loan would have to continue until it was the reason.

January 5th. He played in the 1-1 draw against WBA after QPR brought him back from Ipswich.

Looks like Billy Sharp will see out his loan season @ Forest and go back to the Saints in the summer. IF Saints get relegated then Sharps wage drops back from £40k a week(PL) to £25k a week(championship). Saints could well need him next season.

It swas reported that Billy Sharp signed for Saints on £25k a week last season and that his wage would rise to £40k a week in the PL.

Its not that hard to believe is it ? Look how much Paul Dufferman paid the likes of Halmosi - McShane - Bullard etc etc. The extra £15k a week for Sharp is not that much when PL money is on the table.

It would be interesting to note how much Saints are still paying Sharp to play for Nottingham Forest ???
