Okay, perhaps not the best example in fairness, but you can see what I mean, and I really don't think that dismissing the opinions of anyone under the age of 25 is particularly helpful on any number of levels.

As Beddy said, and as is clear, he was a playing legend for the club and still loves the Saints. However, on occasion his mouth seems to have worked rather quicker than his head recently. I think your anger stems from the term "bellend" rather than "being unwise" or "behaving unhelpfully"......perhaps the term is too strong. However, saying that, two of my heroes when I was growing up/grown up were MLT and Billy Duffy, the guitarist from The Cult. Since those heady days, I've met Billy on a number of occasions and found him rude, unpleasant and a monumental pain in the arse to deal with. Does that mean that in my eyes he's any less of a legend/hero. Nah, not really, he was a big part of my early years and I loved all that he did. Does it preclude me from thinking he's a bit of a bellend? Nope, and I do. And you know what? That's actually okay.....

I've been watching saints since I was 5 at the Dell 1961 so I think I'm well able to judge on Le Tiss also I live in guernsey and know his family ,personally Mike Channon was better more consistent and regular international player, my original question was asking wether his current actions were starting to devalue his past achievements , in my opinion they are

Cannot believe what I am reading from some people on here.

ABSOLUTE JOKE of a title to this!!!

MATT LE TISSIER WAS, IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE A SOUTHAMPTON LEGEND!!

Whether or not you believe that he "single-handedly kept us up" year after year is up to you. I always say there is no such thing as a one man team, but also see the side from so many that without him we would have been relegated.

Here's why he's a legend though, for those who are either dilluded or have ridiculously short memories:
Penalty Record - 47 from 48 attempts and is considered one of the greatest ever from the 12 yard spot.
100 Goal Prem Midfielder - First midfield player to score 100 Premier League Goals.
Loyalty beyond belief - could've moved to any top based British Club. For those who think he didn't wanna sit on the bench - most would've doubled his money to sit on the bench.
210 Goals for Saints - Says it all.
The last goal at the Dell - what a cracker - how many Saints fans in tears.
Second highest League scorer ever - 162 Goals for Saints, just 23 behind Mick Channon.
Scorer of ridiculously good goals - never have I seen someone do some of the things he did for Saints - Blackburn goal may have been his favourite, but the goal against Newcastle, where he flicks it past Barry Vennison over Scott and strokes it home was true class. Or maybe the Wimbledon flick and smash - outrageous.
Rickie Lambert - ask Rickie who the best player to ever wear the Southampton jersey is... He'll tell ya.
Saints fans - we sing Le Tiss's name now, not only in his own song, but in that of Rickie Lambert's song.
He's a fan - regardless of this "he's got to pay for a ticket and wont rumours", he is a fan who has paid for tickets, seen it with my own eyes. Check out soccer saturday for his reaction to Stern John scoring those goals on the last day of the season a few years back. He's one of us.
Talks Southampton up - diplomatic he may be, but MLT will always say good things about Southampton Football Club. His job as a pundit means that he has to give honest oppinions on things and often these are the oppinions of other fans like you and I. The way he has been treated by Cortese in recent years is scandalous regardless of whether you're a Cortese fan or not the bloke does not go about his business in a nice way.

Im all up for letting people have their opinions, really I am; but to call Matt Le Tissier a bellend is absolute ****e.

    MLT Southampton Legend forever!!!

I think that the OP was just playing with words to be fair. MLT will always be a legend.

I just wish he would give it a rest about his personal grievances with Cortese.

Yes, this is exactly my argument. Just as I posted several posts previously. I haven't tried to deny anyone an opinion, Im just saying that it is unfair for certain generations to judge player in the same manner as others who know them better. I was never around to witness many greats, Channon, Keegan etc So I wouldn't feel justified coming on a Saints forum and insulting them. Its a dickhead move.

Here's an analogy for you. Imagine some ****-hot band are playing a one-off, sold-out gig at Wembley, and all your mates and brother are going etc. But you can't, you are sick in hospital. Anyway, you soon get better, but for months and months after you have to put up with your friends all cotniuously going on about how good the show was. Eventually you just get pissed off, and you start to say things like, "It can't have been that good!!" etc. I guess the emotion is envy.

I liken this to Le Tiss. Perhaps some of us are 'guilty' of blowing his trumpet too much (ooh-er!). For this, I apologise, but I will simply never be able to quit doing it. The show really was that good.

PS - Sorry by the way for delayed reply, different time zones.

It was a sensational show, no doubt. But let's not forget he could also be terribly petulant and disinterested on many occasions too. But yes, I still love him. Of course!

Have always liked Southampton, and used to like Le Tissiers style of play, he was exciting and daring, and like his contributions on Sky Sports. However he blotted his copybook somewhat when he admitted trying to boot the ball in touch, in a match against Wimbledon, it had something to do with spread betting, and the time of the first throw in, it did not succeed, as the ball was intercepted, but the intent was there.

To be honest, I think this was something he made up to spice up his autobiography. There simply wouldn't be enough money bet into a market like that with any of the spread firms to make it worth doing.

Tiss has more than earned the right to say whatever he wants about Saints.

Ask yourself if you have done enough for Saints to earn your right to spout off on the internet?

And once again, I am 100% certain those slagging him off on here would melt and not say a peep to his face. Whereas, if you talk to Matt directly, he's man enough to reply giving his side of the story.
