Craig Conway looked like he was destined for Watford a few months ago but as his contract gets closer to its end it seems that other teams have interest in him as well, seems like Palace may now be putting in a bid. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...s-Watford-to-his-signature-article734239.html
I guess it depends how much we get for DG and others before we can say how much we can battle with for other targets.
I agree with Hornette, but i also think it depends on whether AT is still on Malky's radar. Clearly he would not go in for 2players in the same position with our shoe-string budget. I dont think we can second guess anything this summer. Only the players and MM know what they are doing
BHD, Taylor is a left back, Conway is a winger. I have some Dundee Utd friends who are season tickets holders and they have both let me know that they have heard he is coming to Watford. I 've seen him a couple of times including when he scored in the cup final last year and think he would be a very good signing for us.
I agree blissett he would be a great purchase, Don Cowie is more a central player than a natural winger, Conway and Buckley on the wing would be very useful, plus we have to remember that Ellington's contract is up at the end of the season therefore there should be some more money in the wage Budget.
I have to agree with this. Does anyone know whether Conway can take a set piece? Cowie needs someone to learn from to give us an extra dimension
Conway would surely rather come to Watford then Palace. Can't imagine them paying him any more then we would....and Watford is like the 2nd capital of Scotland anyway the way we're going.
If he's good and we can afford him then I hope we get him - but sorting out the defence HAs to be done
What defence , never had one since McClellands day the watford way has always to try to score more than the opposition ! look at the amount of goals we shipped this season even with AT!
I think we need a LB, LM and STK when DG leaves. If anyone else leaves they need replacing as well. We could do with signing some experienced players for those positions as well. We have some good young players but they need someone to learn from...
How much have we cleared of the wages bill by letting Sadler and Ellington go? The problem we've had is that the budget wasn't balanced with them in there wages running at I think it was 95% to 105% of income, for simplicity sake lets say 10million income. Our wages bill shouldn't be more than 65% of gross revenue so as of last season I reckon we needed to cut about 3.5million a year of the salaries, at +/-300k a year for the 5 grand a week guys theres still not much space in the budget for expanding the squad!! As such I think realistically we'll not be bringing in any at that level and more likely to see more academy players given sub 100k pro contracts and as scout around the other young releases..... "A real challenge for "the management"
Welcome to not606 Silver - are you also from 606 or a complete newbie? You are right but finances may say otherwise
welcome Silver You are right ,although I think the moneyside will dictate otherwise,ah well thats the world we live in!
Hmm - Watford or Palace? Possibly neither, sadly - the Smart Money up here says Rangers (the Glasgow variety) are leading the chase, dangling the carrot of Champions League football. Not sure that we can compete with that!
How many games a season do rangers or celtic play in the champions league? they never seem to go very far! and Watford is mostly Scottish anyway! you never know depends whether MM gets a chance to talk to him and thats assuming we do actually want him!
