Copied from WACCOE: "Warnock was talking candidly to a group of fans behind the West Stand after the game; the main points of note were: - Looking at options to replace Jerome Thomas, still after a striker to put pressure on Becchio and that he has a centre back target he is hopeful of landing, but it might be up until the last few hours of the January window before we can get him. - Stated that Tate has played the last game of his loan and that it's unlikely it will be extended if he can bring in his other centre back target. Fans questioned whether it was Hill or Anton Ferdinand which Warnock smiled and said "You'll have to wait and see" and went on to say "I could get a call from Shaun in the morning telling me another one of my targets has become available, so its pointless stating names, things are changing all the time." - Had a little moan about player's agents, stated that the window was a sellers market and agents and managers dont want players to leave until late on in the window so they can see if they get a better offer, he also said clubs are foolish to show their hand too early in the window as you usually pay alot more for players. - Mentioned a player he was after in the summer that a fee was agreed for, but the transfer didn't go through as funds didn't arrive in time and the club then decided to keep him to "help them stay in the division" (assume he was talking about George Boyd) he said the same player is getting touted around, player is in the last 6 months of his contract and isn't going to renew so the club want to sell him, but they don't want to lower their price. He said thats an example of why clubs wait until the last day to do business so they can force managers hands and then "agents get involved". .Interestingly he said he won't be renewing his interest because he signed an alternative player for that position in the summer - Varney? - Said he will be glad to get to the end of the window and keep all his best players and "add another two or three" to the squad. - Everton and Leeds will extend Barkley's loan before the end of the window so we get to keep him until the end of the season "if both parties are happy" and that he's fit in well and is a star in training. - Said he wants to trim the squad a little bit more and that there are "one or two" fringe players who could leave, but its hard to sell players or loan them out when the players dont want to go, because they don't want to drop divisions. So it looks like Warnock is after a centre back, left winger and striker - the way he was talking it seems his mind is made up on the centre back and the striker and winger is a case of seeing which of his targets become available. "
That's all sounds refreshing. Must admit, I'll be surprised and delighted if on feb 1st we still have our star players and have added three quality ones
After yesterday, who?are they and who are they better than? Sam Byram is one, after that we have average hoofers at best.
Ross McCormack is a top quality player who is wasted when we're hoofing it about. I expect us to play better once this winger he's touting comes in.
Tom Lees Ross McCormack and Sam Byram where stand out players yesterday Austin was class second half tactics were ****
Austin is a top class player, will need some time to get back into the swing of things and definitely should have been playing in the U21s for a bit first
Completely agree, although I think Tonge's loan ending forced his hand with regards to rushing him back. Once he's back to his best that's a real plus though. With him and Barkley we might actually be able to win a midfield battle for once...
So with all this quality why were dross before Rodolph and Rosco got knackered? Three quality players would have had us right up there from the very start. Have you forgotten who we were playing yesterday and their league position, crap defence and that their main man was in Africa on a jolly. We have a team of journey men Green, Brown, Pearce, Pelts (to name only four) all are interchangeable league one players at best, and Varney what a croc of ****e he is. Yesterday the discontent was just starting when we scored. Never thought I would be joining in a verse of "we're ****, and we're sick of it".
I am thinking that the tactics might be more to do with the dross we have in the squad. Another name for the list of people who should never get a game is Norris.
I don't know, we've proved in a few games this season that we do have players capable of getting the ball on the floor and dominating games.
Huddersfield are a better side than both Barnsley and Bristol, yet it was Barnsley and Bristol that made us look ****. Poor tactics and a lack of width is our problem.
Hasnt happened to be honest in last three months. I would say we've got a healthy return in points in comparison to the dross we're playing
This is not a pop about you not going: But I am struggling to think of more than a couple of 30 min spells when we have done this in the league. We play awful football and scrape wins. we dont run off the ball to provide options. We have no width and when was the last time we were excited and anticipating a quality attacking move? The midfielders win no ball, do not track back, have no width and when in possesion just pass to someone with less space than they had.
I know that's what we've generally been doing, but my point is that I think it's down to Warnock's tactics more than it is the players we have. The midfield can't exactly get a passing game going if the ball's constantly flying over their heads.
They were still getting over Rhodes going when we played them. Plus we did lumber them with Grayson and the greedy bastard Clayton so fairs fair.
You have your opinion and it might be right. But mine is that NW has either been saddled with or has bought a load of humpers and dumpers, and we are getting better resullts than our qualiity and hence tactics deserve. If Simon G. was still in charge we would be looking at relegation with this lot on the pitch. If this is Warnocks team he should go, if he got lumbered by Bates and his tranfer/wage policy then he should see out the season. If NW took the job knowing the sort of team he would be putting out then shame on him.
I've seen us at the Everton and Huddersfield games, the players are capable of it if they set out to play properly. Even against Chelsea we showed glimpses of what we're capable of. They are getting overwhelmed in the midfield because it's too easy for teams to mark our players out of the game, because we're not drawing opposition players out wide because we have no width. Jerome Thomas made a huge difference.
