So apparently SB has said: "We're talking to QPR. that's all we are at the moment, talking to them," Bruce told BBC Radio Humberside. "We hope that we can try and resolve something next week if we possibly can and we'll see what develops." I know things are never straightforward, but DJ Campbell has been a QPR player all season, so couldn't these exploratory talks have happened even before the window if Bruce had targetted him. Also considering we're now two thirds of the way through the window does anyone know of any strikers we have officially been in talks with? Pearson moved in for Wood from West Brom before anyone could blink at the start of January and in doing so 'stole a march' on all of his rivals. I also seem to remember him doing the same with Fryatt and Mclean for us a few seasons ago. His tactics seem to be; get the prelims done in advance and get the players before others can come sniffing - Not a bad strategy. To be fair SB has made a priority of signing our loan players and I can see his logic, but yet again we seem to be in a lottery chasing the most sought after goal-scoring strikers to fill the position(s) where we are most desperate. In the next 11 days selling clubs will squeeze desperate buyers like ourselves more and more and we will either have to bow down to that or abandon talks and take our place in the final day scramble (which we are all too familiar with). Bruce is known for the quality of players he can bring to his clubs, but I'm not sure whether he has had enough 'on the ground' support during this window by others doing the spadework and letting him get on with his main football duties. Apparently AP used to do much of this when he was here, so who is responsible now and why aren't they lining up SB's targets with the preliminary talks already covered?
Of course the desparation cuts both ways. Take FC for example. Sunderland are in the driving seat at the moment with (apparently) several clubs chasing him. BUT, if we get 10 days down the line, and no deal has been struck, then they face him going for sod all at the end of the season. Though basically I agree with your point!
Also how many points have Leicester accrued by having Woods available to play from the very first day of the window? Nigel Pearson is still a ****, but in fairness, he does get his business done early whilst most other clubs are '****ing about'. We 'could' have been 5 points better off over the last 2 games had we had anyone capable of sticking the ball in the onion bag. I hope we have a few option teed up.
We always are slow starters in the windows, can't remember the last time we got anyone quickly & it wasn't last minute.
Some clubs rely on the price being cheaper if they leave everything until the last minute. Sometimes it's more expensive though! Or it doesn't happen at all!!
We've gained 7 points on you. I don't know if what's funnier. That or watching you all pin your hopes on someone you havn't signed yet
Have you earned your badge of honour yet son? Maybe if you get banned for a second time you'll be an even bigger man and then you can have your own 'Martyr Thread' just like John Fallen did.
Too many assumptions in this op Who said we havent been in preliminary talks before the window opened ? If people dont know who we have officailly been in talks with - is this good (we keep our business to ourselves) or bad (assuming youre saying we havent been in talks with anyone) How do you know Pearson stole a march on everyone else just cos he got his man - Id guess thats more to do with what they were offering him rather than them comming in early for him How do you know nobody has been lining in up SBs targets getteing preliminary talks done? If you have inside knowledge then ok but if you dont know these things how can you criticise
Now? Wasn't Papa fostering good relations with Gedo's club in September last year? Relations that could be about to pay off Valencia/Wigan style.
we should remember that this is the January Transfer Window, and there are 31 days in the month. i make it that there are still 11 days left and there are more than 2 players available in the world. Hells Bells Sky Tele have only just starting preparing for their Transfer Day Special. Plenty of time left and plenty of targets out there. So far Steve Bruce has been true to his word in December by firstly securing 3 of the 4 loans he wanted (with 1 more to follow) before looking at what else we need.
