So following the twitter comment are we expecting Holty + £2 mill for Hooper and £6 mill for Graham?
Carrabuh, our scouting network at the moment is very poor in comparison to many of the clubs we're competing with. It wasn't so long ago we were a league 1 club, dangerously close to administration. At that time, 'luxuries' like a decent scouting network will have been cut, and it takes time to get that back into position. I may be wrong, but I think our scouting network in Europe is extremely limited, it wouldn't surprise me if we don't have a presence in say, Spain and Portugal, at all. A scouting network isn't cheap, but no doubt it's something we're working on. At the moment, we're having to concentrate on UK based players, because we don't have the scouts there. It's probably costing us more in transfer fees right now for the quality of player, but that'll change in a few years, as always with many of the things you ask for, it requires time! You can point to Swansea, but they brought in a manager with a very good knowledge of the Spanish leagues. If you look back to 2011, with the exception of Vorm all their signings came from Britain too.
I think Hooper would be a good addition. I'm sure we could get more for our money abroad but as mentioned we have no scouting knowledge overseas. Definitely think our scouting system should be number one priority to finance and I have no doubt it will.
Theres a reason why we are not scouting abroad, it because we are only interested in certain types of players
It's defiantly been based on money however I can imagine he was given advice and influenced to join QPR though or as mentioned some deal has been worked out. Phil Thompson made a point if you were a player would you pick a club like QPR or Newcastle? Most people would go for the Geordies. I can imagine Newcastle wasn't offering him pittance as well.
So you think the only countries in Europe capable of producing lone strikers, defensive midfielders and wingers who can cross are in Britain? I'm sorry, that's plain ridiculous. We simply have not had the money to put the infrastructure in place. Not every club in Europe plays tika-taka football with 80% possession.
Players that are good in the premier league, yeah. Not every poncey spanish midget is good for the premier league.
I can see both sides of the argument here yes it's a gamble on foreign players and it can go wrong. However I don't understand why are fans are so scared about signing foreign players? It's not exactly like we've got Bryan Hamilton spending the money. On the other side there is some great British players but there is a lot of ones who I call chuggers.
I think you've confused your own argument DH, thats what the club may think. I don't think European players are anywhere near limited to just those things, thats why they should be looking out there. Our team however is limited to those things so I personally thing we need to improve the elements which are clearly lacking, retaining a football. There are not many British players out there that we can afford who can do that If we have 10 million to spend then I would personally say we do have enough money to set up a foreign scouting network, we could of had the knowledge and probably still have enough for two decent players.
Having calmed down I'm still spitting feathers about yesterday's performance. It's not the fact we lost, it's not the fact we got thumped, it's the way we lost. Think 'Norwich v Posh' then 'Liverpool v Norwich'. Our display yesterday was IMO, exactly the same as Posh's against us. No fight, a realization that we were playing a side much better than us and the inevitability of a heavy defeat. The fact that Hughton once again seemed devoid of ideas of how to change things (again) also wound me up no end. The word 'passion' is often used in football, well yesterday our players showed zilch. One thing Lambert had when he was here was the ability to motivate and motivate well, I'm seriously doubting as to whether Hughton has this in his locker. That is all. P.S. FYI I'm far from embarrassed but our manager should be after yesterday and he should come out and say so IMO
Had a big debate on another thread about how Hughton is a reactive manager, looks at the response the last time we got thumped by Liverpool? One thing no one can criticize Hughton on so far is his signings.... hence I thought you're comment was strange and quite fickle. Obviously all us our fans of the club and want us to succeed, but unity is needed to pick up performances, especially the fans. I just hope to god some of this discontent from some fans on here isn't shared vocally at the game because then that would start to worry me. Edit: I meant isn't shared vocally
My comment was also made when my emotions were very raw as I passionately care about my beloved Norwich City and have done so for over forty years
Bit of an over-reaction, it's Liverpool. We need to avoid relegation first and in that we are going to have difficult games. It's not a great result but Hughton or the team has no need to be embarrassed.
I agree, I think Hughtons signings are much better than Lamberts last year. It's his style of play which is getting on my nerves.
