He can say what he likes for all I care. He could slice the nose and ears off a defenseless little kitten and rape a bus-load of nuns and I'd still think his **** doesn't stink.
LeTiss was possibly the most gifted player I've ever seen, and his loyalty was a rare good thing in a wicked world. But he's also human, and human's make knobs of themselves sometimes. I have no problem forgiving him for that, but Matt, please shut up about Cortese mate, we can make up our own minds on the subject.
Churchill is a legend but some of the **** he did made him a twat, legends aren't immune to being idiots now and again are they?. It's called being human and every human has faults.
Okay, fair enough. You make the argument seem a little more acceptable. But to just come out and label him, in spite of everything he did, as a "bellend". **** that!! I'm not having it!!
I don't understand. You seem to be coming from both sides of your arguement. As you quite rightly say, people under the age of 25 will generally not have experienced his best years. I include myself in this (98/99 was really the only half decent season I saw of him live). So it's only natural therefore that people under the age of 25 wont neccesarily hold him quite as high up as those who did experience his great years. He is not my childhood hero. I do not have rose tinted spectatcles when it comes to him. Yes I appreciate how great he was and what he did for this football club, but that is it. Just as I appreciate Ted Bates and Micky Channon and Terry Paine and Lawrie Mac etc. It's because I'm not blinded by love, that I can see that his media comments over recent times are negative and unhelpful.
well, with that comment I'm afraid a little credibility from your post goes. That's just nonsensical and I wish you posted the above first as I wouldn't have wasted time trying to have a sensible discussion. all the best.
Well my defence (or rather, one of my defences) for some people being happy to criticise Le Tiss is that some of us are young and therefore don't have him sat up on sort of untouchable pedastall. But you've sort gone ahead and already put that fact out there for me. It's a perfectly acceptable defence in my book.
The issue I have with this thread is that, if someone is too young to really appreciate what the guy did for us, then what gives them the right to post on a forum with some cocky remark questioning his 'legend' status, and worse still insult the man? Why not just say, "I don't agree with some of Le Tissier's comments"?
Blacky you must accept that playing ability/legendary status as a player has nothing really to do with general character. Maradona is a legend, also a legendary pillock. Gazza is a legend, also a legendary pillock. I could go on and on and on. I'm not putting Le Tissier in that category obviously, he's nowhere near as bad them, and yes, he was and remains a legend for what he did in his playing career, but since then? Not so much. Cortese is a ruthless businessman, he knows his **** but he's probably a bellend, I'm happy to accept that. But personally I'd rather have Cortese running the club than Le Tissier any day.
Other than his opinions on Cortese, which yes, he should perhaps keep to himself, he has always come across as a totally sound and decent bloke, and with the best interests of SFC in his heart. So I don't see how these opinions can cause so many to jump on his back (particularly since nobody knows what has really been said between the two of them). He did so much more for us than Cortese ever has, and will be around for long after Cortese eventually jumps ship, which he will, given the chance. Anyway, I think everyone must be bored by me now. Let them all bitch. Unappreciative fools!
I wouldn't say anyone has a lack of appreciation for what he did as a player. And sure, judging from his TV persona and what people who have met him say, he seems like a pleasant chap, but when he criticises the current regime but refuses to explain what exactly is wrong with it, he's going to draw some ire. If I was being mischievous I would suggest he's indulging in a bit of sour grapes after his own doomed bid to buy the club failed.
Slightly odd argument that anyone under 25 is not allowed an opinion as to whether or not MLT is being a bellend. I'm some way over 25 and had a season ticket at the Dell for all of Matty's glory years and think he's possibly a belegend as I said before. However, I'm more than happy to accept someone under 25 choosing purely legend or bell. It's like saying you can't say that Hitler was a twat unless you fought in the war....
Maybe. But if I remember rightly, he was hardly the driving force behind that Pinnacle bid. Rather a sort of reluctant third partner being used simply for the 'people's vote' side of things. He seemed more than happy when Liebherr first arrived. I put his gripe down to the lack of respect apparently shown towards him and other ex-players behind the scenes. Yes, perhaps he is being petty. Yes, perhaps he should stop talking to the Echo. But if this is his only crime, then it hardly constitutes insulting the man.
Folks Le tiss....... is a legend and will always be one in my book for his football ability. However he is not a legend for his outspokenness as far as Saints are concerned. He is naturally entitled to his opinion although at times I can't but help feel that some of his offerings smack of a little mischief because of the take over saga. It is well known since the very beginning he had little time for Cortese. Naturally over time the feeling has become a mutual dislike. He is just expressing similar feelings to a lot of Saints fans although perhaps using his position as a Football punter to promote them. He truly is not doing himself any favours both in the eyes of the majority of Saints fans or his current employer's. I don't think he knows this but there are rumblings on sky behind the scenes, as they do not like their people being involved in this kind of Scandal mongering offerings. JMO for what it is worth.......
